Changhong H2 packs a SCiO molecular sensor that can detect an object's composition and qualitiesAs part of the CES 2017 last week, Changhong, Analog Devices Inc. (ADI), and Consumer Physics jointly announced the Changhong H2 smartphone with a SCiO molecular sensor. This spectrometer was presented at last year's CES by Consumer Physics. The project for creating this sensor was started via Kickstarter in 2014 and some backers haven't received their items, yet. Others who did, are disappointed with their performance. However, on-site testers at the CES 2017 have clearly demonstrated that the built-in spectrometer in the Changhong H2 works well. How does it work? The device beams out an infrared light, which interacts with the object at molecular level. It detects how the molecules react to the light, records the response, which is a reflection in different wavelengths, and uploads it to a database for comparison. You can use it to measure your Body Mass Index (BMI), to check which strawberry in the pot is the sweetest, and if the pill you're about to take is fake or not. The rest of the specifications of Changhong H2 include a 2GHz octa-core CPU, a 6-inch 1080p display, a 16-megapixel primary camera accompanied by a fingerprint sensor on the rear of the device, a 3000 mAh battery. The device will have capacitive navigation buttons, a special physical button cleans memory cache and extends battery life, and an aircraft-grade aluminum frame. No further details have been revealed. The model will go on sale in China by the end of June with its price currently set at CNY 2999 (USD 433), which as well may be higher upon launch. The manufacturer plans to release the device in the USA as well, but this is planned to happen by the end of 2017.
