Battery Tests

8849 Tank 3 Pro by Unihertz uses the same 23800 mAh Li-Pol battery as its vanilla sibling. The nominal battery voltage is 3.87V x 2 = 7.74V (double parallel and double series form), while the maximum one is 4.45V x 2= 8.9V. To help the charging process, the device has an onboard independent coulomb meter with model name Zhongying SH366003. The smartphone arrives with the same 120W fast charger pictured above. 10W reversed wired charging is also supported and you can use the Tank 3 Pro as a reliable power bank that can make phone calls, browse the internet, and serve as a camera at the same time. All battery tests we run on the devices we review are developed by us and performed with the screen of the device being calibrated to 200 cd/m². Battery-saving features are disabled. The battery of our review unit charged in full for 1 hour and 53 minutes - that's 12 minutes longer than the charging time of the Tank 3 we tested a few months ago. The charging process follows the same pattern and draws almost the same curve as the one on the vanilla model. The first 22 minutes account for regaining 40% of the battery charge. After that, the process slows down only a bit and the battery regains its charge up to 60% for the next 20 minutes. The third stage is from 60% to 90% during which the charging process slows down even more and it takes 30 minutes. The final 10% need 43 minutes to be charged in full, during which the process slows down further. The battery temperature begins at 25°C, reaches 45°C in 22 minutes, and peaks at 47°C after another 20 minutes. The temperature starts decreasing immediately after that. At first slow, and after the first hour - more significantly to measure 33°C at the end. A major difference with the Tank 3 is the available 60Hz mode on the Tank 3 Pro. This gives us the chance to make a proper comparison with all other devices we've tested so far. During our intensive browsing test with the screen's refresh rate set at 60Hz, the battery lasted for 56 hours and 14 minutes. This is the second-best result from all devices we've tested so far and is less than an hour shorter than the one taking the first place - the Ouktei WP19, which has a significantly less powerful chipset The discharging process and the battery temperature behave almost the same way as in Tank 3. Discharging is stable from the start almost until the end - at 4% the device shuts down. When plugged in to charge, it starts from 1% as per standard. The battery temperature starts at 27°C and after 1 hour, it goes up to 29°C, remains there for 6 hours, and then drops back to 27°C, remaining at this level until the end. During our intensive browsing test with the screen's refresh rate set at 90Hz, the battery lasted for 49 hours and 35 minutes. For comparison, Tank 3's battery lasted for 52 hours and 16 minutes, which is 2 hours and 41 minutes more. These are the top two results in this test at 90Hz. The discharging process follows the same pattern observed during the previous test. The battery temperature starts at 27°C and after 3 hours and 30 minutes, it drops to 26°C. It remains at this level for 45 hours and afterward goes back to 27°C, remaining at this level until the end. During the same test but with the screen's refresh rate set at 120Hz, the battery lasted for 45 hours and 2 minutes. The discharging process follows the same pattern observed during the previous tests. The battery temperature starts at 23°C and after 3 hours and 30 minutes, it increases to 29-30°C, remaining at this level until the end. The video test for battery life uses a 1080p video at 30 fps with a ~20Mbps rate is used. Our review unit's score is 64 hours and 34 minutes and this is the highest result we get at this test with the screen's refresh rate set at 60Hz. The Tank 3 Pro is the rightful first-place holder here. The discharging process develops in relatively the same way. The battery temperature starts at 30°C, drops to 27°C after 2 hours and 30 minutes, and stays at this level until the end with minor fluctuations. The 4K video battery life test uses a 2160p video at 30 fps with a ~55 Mbps rate. In this test, the battery of the Tank 3 Pro lasted for 56 hours and 24 minutes. The discharging process curve is almost the same as the one of the 1080p video test. The battery temperature starts at 32°C, drops to 28-29°C, and remains at this level until the end. Again, the model is the leader in this test. For the 3D Graphics/Gaming test, the YEBIS OpenGL ES 3.0 3D Tech Demo is used. The result from this test is 37 hours and 54 minutes. In this test, the powerful chipset shows its support and again, the Tank 3 Pro takes the first place, outpacing all other big-battery smartphones we've tested so far. The discharging process curve shows a slowdown after the battery's charge drops below 10%. The battery temperature is in the 27°C range with occasional drops to 26°C and ups to 28°C. The hottest part during this process is the center of the chin with a temperature of 44.6°C. The second photo depicts the device's temperature during our 3D battery life test. In this case, the hottest part is near the center of the upper half of the body with a temperature of 39.9°C.

Battery Settings

The Battery menu is the same as the one on the Tank 3. Only the accent color for the UI has been changed from cyan to pastel purple. The settings contain information about the battery status, usage data, the Adaptive Battery, the Battery Saver, and the Battery percentage toggle. The usage data shows for how long any app, process, or service has used the battery with the top most consuming apps/services being listed. For each, you can manage the battery usage by choosing an unrestricted, optimized, or restricted plan. The Adaptive Battery feature detects apps that are draining the battery and issues a warning with an option to restrict those apps. The Battery Saver can turn on/off automatically based on the battery's percentage or you can turn it on and off manually. Finally, there's the Battery percentage toggle, which shows/hides the percentage level from the battery icon in the top right corner of the status bar.
