POCO M3 Pro 5G Review

Display

The POCO M3 Pro is built around a 6.5-inch in-cell IPS display with an FHD+ resolution (1080 x 2400). It is protected by a 2.5D curved Corning Gorilla Glass 3. From the settings, you can switch between a 60Hz and 90Hz refresh rate. The DynamicSwitch technology allows for automatic switching between 30Hz, 50Hz, 60Hz, and 90Hz depending on the content. The Display settings allow you to switch on/off automatic brightness, Sunlight Mode, Night Mode, and a Reading Mode 3.0. The latter can be scheduled. Further, you can choose your color scheme. The default setting is Auto for colors and default color temperature. There's also a Saturated and Standard color preset, while the color temperature can be additionally set to warm or cold. We have measured the brightness, contrast, color temperature, and color space coverage of the display with the three different color modes, each with the default color temperature. Each combination is measured twice - the Single Frame one measures the white and black luminance of a screen that shows 50% white and 50% black; the Separate Frame one measures the white and black luminance of a fully white and fully black screen. The display of the POCO M3 Pro is moderately bright. We have measured 524 cd/m² of peak brightness at 100% APL with the default display settings. This peak brightness is achieved either with Automatic Brightness set on and SUnlight Mode set off, or vice versa. It can be reached only when there's a direct light source hitting the light senor, meaning you get this brightness level only in a very bright environment.

We have also measured the brightness uniformity of the display. The table above depicts nine values taken at 100% brightness level on a fully white screen. They clearly demonstrate that the brightness of the display decreases from the top to the bottom of the screen.

Automatic colors, Default color temperature

The Automatic colors profile is the default one for the display of the POCO M3 Pro. Under this profile, the maximum brightness of our review unit's screen is 423.393 cd/m² when we measure at 100% APL. When measured on two separate frames, the contrast ratio is 3183:1. When measured on a single frame showing 50% white and 50% black, the contrast ratio is 1442:1. It is only under the Automatic colors profile, that the phone automatically manages the backlight and when there's a fully black screen displayed, it automatically dims it. At 100% APL on a fully black screen, the black luminance is 0.133 cd/m² - that's the lowest we've measured at 100% APL. The temperature of the white point is around 8400-8600 K no matter the type of measurement.

Saturated colors, Default color temperature

The Saturated colors profile comes second. Under this profile, the maximum brightness of our review unit's screen is 424.982 cd/m² when we measure at 100% APL, and that's the highest we've measured on this display. The contrast ratio is around 1500:1 no matter the type of measurement. At 100% APL on a fully black screen, the black luminance is 0.283 cd/m². The temperature of the white point is around 8300-8600 K no matter the type of measurement.

Standard colors, Default color temperature

The Standard colors profile is third. Under this profile, the maximum brightness of our review unit's screen is 372.234 cd/m² when we measure at 100% APL on a fully white screen. The contrast ratio is around 1300:1 no matter the type of measurement. At 100% APL on a fully black screen, the black luminance is 0.284 cd/m². The biggest change under this profile is the temperature of the white point which is significantly reduced to around 6500-6700 K. On all three profiles, the color space coverage remains unchanged.
