Overview

The Jelly series by Unihertz is one of the symbols of very compact devices in the smartphone realm. Unihertz is now launching the Jelly Max - the latest model from the series. It is introduced via Unihertz's 10th crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter. This is the first 5G Jelly smartphone featuring a snappy chipset, fast charging, and a unique design. The Jelly Max unit provided for this review is a prototype. In the brand's own words, even though this smartphone is already not just a concept model, some aspects of the device, including software and main corpus surface are still in the optimization phase, so we treat this phone as a 100% prototype. Specifications

Unihertz Jelly Max features a 5.05-inch IPS display with a resolution of 720 x 1520 pixels. There's a punch hole in the top left corner housing the 32MP Samsung S5KGD1 selfie camera with an f/2.0 aperture, 25.1 mm focal length equivalent, and an FHD @ 30 fps video recording. On the rear shell, there are two cameras. The first is the 100MP OmniVision OVA0B40 main shooter with an f/1.7 aperture and a 27.2 mm focal length equivalent. It supports autofocus and 4K (UHD) @ 30 fps video recording. The second rear camera is an 8MP SK Hynix Hi-847 telephoto unit with autofocus, an f/2.2 aperture, and 3x optical zoom. There's a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and a rear-mounted loudspeaker accompanying the two cameras. A 4000 mAh battery keeps the lights on and supports 66W fast charging. A MediaTek Dimensity 7300 chipset ticks under the hood paired with 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. The Jelly Max is fitted with a hybrid, dual Nano-SIM card slot with both SIM cards supporting 5G connectivity simultaneously as well as the following network bands: 2G GSM (B2, B3, B5, B8), 2.5G (BC0, BC1), 3G WCDMA (B1, B2, B4, B5, B6, B8, B19), 4G TDD-LTE (B34, B38, B39, B40, B41), 4G FDD-LTE (B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, B7, B8, B12, B13, B17, B18, B19, B20, B25, B26, B28, B66), and 5G (n1, n2, n3, n5, n7, n8, n20, n25, n28, n38, n40, n41, n66, n77, n78). The wireless connectivity options of the model include Bluetooth 5.4, Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax), NFC, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi Hotspot, and Cast Display. The smartphone runs on Android 14, works with GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and Beidou, and is fitted with an IR blaster and a USB Type-C port.
