Display

The Doogee S61 Pro has a 6-inch IPS screen with an HD+ resolution (720 x 1600 pixels) and Corning Gorilla Glass for protection. As we already mentioned in the Design section of this review, the display is from an older generation with non-curved corners and thick bezels. The display settings are standard for an Android 12 smartphone. They allow you to switch between the light and dark themes, turn on/off automatic brightness, adaptive brightness, and night light. You can choose from several wallpapers, charging animation, font sizes, and display sizes. The screen color mode provides a choice between standard, vivid, or cool colors but these are not pre-calibrated color modes.

Doogee mentions 500 nits of maximum brightness for the S61 Pro display. Our measurements show that the maximum brightness is close to 550 nits and even the lowest levels we've measured are higher than 500 nits. It is clearly visible outdoors in bright sunlight. Below you will find our usual measurements of the white and black luminance, static contrast ratio, and color temperature of the display taken twice - on a single frame that displays 50% white and 50% black and on two separate frames displaying a fully white and a fully black screen.

The white luminance of the display measured on two separate white and black frames is only slightly higher than the white and black luminance measured on one screen that shows 50% white and 50% black. The maximum brightness on a 100% white screen is 548.095 cd/m2 and on a 50% white screen, it is 514.340 cd/m2 - there's a 34 nits difference. The black luminance from the two measurements is almost equal, hence, there isn't a significant difference in the contrast ratio measured in both ways and it is an average of 1420:1-1450:1. The temperature of the white point is extremely high. It exceeds 12000 K in all types of measurements. In this regard, using the Night Light at all times is advisable.

Our brightness uniformity measurement shows that the display is not uniformly bright but without any staggering differences. The top one-third has the middle-level brightness with an average of 518 cd/m2. The mid-one-third is the brightest part of the screen with an average of 530 cd/m2. The bottom one-third is the least bright one with an average of 510 cd/m2. The left vertical part of the screen is the least bright. The central vertical is the brightest, and the right third vertical is the mid-brightest. The temperature of the white point exceeds 12000 K.
The CIE diagram shows that the display sRGB color space coverage is lower than 100%. The green and the red ranges of hues look duller. The display panel has a traditional vertical striped RGB subpixel arrangement.
