Doogee S61 Pro Review - versatile design and good performance in a compact rugged package
You can buy a Doogee S98 at promotional prices from the Doogee Mall or from the Doogee Official Store on AliExpress.

Rear cameras

The Doogee S61 Pro features two rear cameras with a symmetrical dual-ring design. The main one combines a 48MP Samsung S5KGM1S sensor with an f/1.8 lens that has a 90° FoV. This sensor has a 1/2" optical format and 0.8 μm pixels. The main camera snaps 48MP photos and shoots FHD videos at 30 fps. Other smartphones which we have reviewed and use the same Samsung S5KGM1 sensor include the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7, Cubot KingKong 5 Pro, Ulefone Power Armor 13, Doogee S97 Pro, Cubot KingKong 5, Cubot Max 3, and Doogee V10. The second shooter is the Night Vision one which uses a 20MP Sony IMX350 sensor with a 1/2.78" optical format and 1.0 μm pixels. This camera has an f/2.0 aperture and is aided by four IR lights. They are laced in the ring surrounding the Night Vision camera, which also includes the four LED flashlights that support the main camera. The Night Vision camera shoots 20MP photos and FHD videos at 30 fps. There's also a good amount of smartphones with a 20MP Night Vision camera which we have already reviewed: iiiF150 R2022, Oukitel WP17, Doogee V20, Doogee S98, Oukitel WP19, and AGM H5.

Front camera

Doogee S61 Pro employs a 16MP Samsung S5K3P9SP04 sensor for its front-facing camera with an f/2.0 aperture and an 80° FoV. The sensor has a 1/3.0" optical format and 1.0um pixel size. The front camera supports facial recognition and unlock. It shoots 16MP photos and FHD videos at 30 fps. Other smartphones which we have reviewed and are using the same sensor for their selfie camera are the Nokia X6 / Nokia 6.1 Plus, Doogee S70, Doogee S80, Ulefone Armor 10 5G, Ulefone Armor 11T 5G, and the Doogee V20.

Camera App

The camera app offers a familiar interface that's simple and intuitive to work with. The big shutter button is at the bottom. The shortcut to the photos and videos is on its left and the camera switch is to the right. The reel with the shooting modes is placed above them. "Photo" is the default shooting mode. You can use the zoom icon for up to four times digital zoom. On the top of the screen, you can manage the flash, HDR, AI, filters, and settings. When you open the settings, they appear as an overlay screen with additional options for some of the toggles, for example - the photo resolution. The second shooting mode is "Video". For this one, you get a digital zoom icon, flash options, and video shooting settings. "Portrait" is to the right of the "Photo" mode. It offers beautification features and an aperture level slider, digital zoom, filters, and photo settings. UHD is something Doogee often uses in its smartphones. Under this mode, you can snap 108MP photos but this is an interpolated resolution so don't expect perfect focus and detail.
To the very left of the reel is the "Night Vision" mode with which you switch to the Night Vision camera. When this mode is on, the button to the right of the shutter button is changed to a night video recording button. Finally, to the very right of the reel, there's the "More" option under which you can see Night Mode, Gif, Pro Mode, Panorama, Time Laps, and Intelligent Scanning (QR code scanner). This "More" tab can be customized to show more or less additional shooting modes. You can also change the theme color. The interface for the front camera is identical to that for the rear cameras but only the Photo, Video, and Portrait modes are available for use with the selfie snapper. Photo editing is done via the Photos app which has Google Lens embedded in it and offers the usual options - enhance, warm, cool, crop, adjust (brightness, contrast, white point, highlights, etc.), filters, mark-up, etc.
