Ulefone Armor 6E Review

Overview

Ulefone Armor 6 has turned out to be quite a success for Ulefone and the company has decided to launch a sibling of this model changing only the chipset and offering the latest OS. The Armor 6E packs a Helio P70 system-on-chip, while the previous model is based on a Helio P60 one. It also runs on Android 9 Pie compared to Android 8.1 Oreo on the previous model. Otherwise, all else, including the design, is the same. The Armor series is one of Ulefone's most successful ones with every consecutive model becoming more popular than it's predecessor. This is not a surprise because Ulefone has shown a sustainable product quality for a number of years and seems to have pinpointed that sweet spot of good design, specs and price. In this in-depth Ulefone Armor 6E review we will cover all familiar aspects of a smartphone as we usually do, so let's begin with an overview of the specifications and what's in the box.
You can buy an Ulefone Armor 6E at a promotional price from Amazon UK, Ulefone's official store on AliExpress, GearBest or Banggood.

Specifications

Ulefone Armor 6E flaunts a 6.2-inch screen with a resolution of 1080 x 2264 pixels. The IPS display panel provides a typical brightness of 360 cd/m2 and covers 100% of the NTSC colour reference space. A flat Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protects the screen aided by resilient rubber that covers most of the metal and polycarbonate frame. Being a ruggedized smartphone, the Armor 6E is IP68, IP69K and MIL-STD-810G certified meaning it is water and dust resistant and is resilient to drops, shock, pressure, humidity, acidic atmosphere, temperature extremes, etc. The camera department of this smartphone includes an 8MP Sony IMX134 sensor with an f/1.8 lens placed in the wide notch area above the display. On the back, there's a vertically aligned and centrally positioned dual-camera module that includes a 16MP Samsung S5K3P9 ISOCELL Bright sensor with an f/1.8 lens and a 2MP depth-sensing unit. They are aided by PDAF and a dual-LED flash. The rear shooters are accompanied by a UV sensor and a fingerprint sensor. A 5000 mAh battery keeps the lights on and can be charged either with an 18W fast charger or a 10W Qi wireless charger. It supports the MediaTek Pump Express fast charging technology.

Ulefone Armor 6E packs a MediaTek Helio P70 (MT6771) chipset based on TSMC's 12 nm process. Its octa-core CPU consists of 4x 2GHz Cortex-A73 and 4x 2GHz Cortex-A53 cores. The graphics department is managed by a tri-core Mali-G72 MP3 GPU clocked 800 MHz. The onboard RAM and storage measure 6GB and 128GB, respectively. The latter can be expanded with up to 256GB. The RAM is dual-channel, LPDDR4X, clocked at 1600 MHz, while the built-in memory is of the eMMC 5.1 type. Both are sourced from Samsung. The Armor 6E is equipped with a hybrid, dual Nano-SIM tray placed on the left frame. Both SIM cards support 4G LTE Cat. 7 and VoLTE simultaneously. The model works with the following network bands making it suitable for worldwide use: 2G GSM (2/3/5/8), 2.5G CDMA (BC0/BC1), 3G WCDMA (1/2/4/5/8), 3G TD-SCDMA (34/39), 4G FDD-LTE (1/2/3/4/5/7/8/12/17/18/19/20/25/26/2BA/28B/66) and 4G TDD-LTE (34/38/39/40/41). The wireless connectivity options of the Ulefone Armor 6E include Bluetooth 4.2, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi Hotspot, Wi-Fi Display. The smartphone also supports NFC with Google Pay (the latter is applicable for selected countries) and works with GPS, GLONASS and Beidou. The model is equipped with a USB Type-C 2.0 port with OTG support and an FS1610S smart audio chip. There's no 3.5 mm jack, which as usual is compensated by a headphone adapter included in the package. The model runs on Android 9 Pie with Ulefone's skin on top. It also includes a number of software tools for active outdoor experiences.

What's in the box

Ulefone Armor 6E is placed in the signature Armor series box - the black silhouettes of a hill and trekkers are pictured on a yellow background. The brand and model names are imprinted on top of the lid together with the IP69K and IP68 rating icons. On the back, the usual data about the main specs, features and certifications are provided.
