Oukitel WP5000 Review

Overview

Oukitel has many years of experience in creating ruggedized smartphones that offer reliable built and battery life along with other interesting features that all add up to very good price/quality ratios for their models. The latest offering from Oukitel is the rugged WP5000 - thinner and more compact than other similar rugged smartphones. It has a large battery, two rear cameras and an 18:9 display, plus a Helio P25 chipset. The whole package is priced at an average of $280, which is quite affordable for an IP68 certified smartphone.

Specifications

Oukitel WP5000 is built around a 5.7-inch IPS screen with a resolution of 720 x 1440 pixels and a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for protection. It has a ruggedized body with a zinc alloy metal frame and military-grade rubber. It is IP68 certified, meaning the device is dust-tight, water-resistant. It is also shock-proof. Under the hood, a MediaTek Helio P25 (MT6757CD) chipset ticks. It packs an octa-core Cortex-A53 chipset with four 2.5GHz cores and four 1.6GHz cores. The processor is coupled with a dual-core Mali-T880 GPU clocked at 900MHz. There are 6GB of dual-channel LPDDR4X RAM clocked at 1600MHz on board and 64GB of built-in memory (probably eMMC 5.1 type), that can be expanded with up to 128GB. The camera department features two rear shooters. The main one is equipped with a 16MP Samsung S5K3P3SX sensor, software interpolated to 21 megapixels. This shooter uses an f/2.0 lens. The second camera packs a 5MP sensor that is used only when shooting with the Blur mode on. The rear cameras are aided by phase detection AF and dual LED flash. On the front, there's an 8MP Hynix HI846 camera, interpolated to 13 megapixels, with an f/2.4 lens and a front LED flash. Power is supplied by a 5200 mAh battery bundled with a 9V/2A fast charger. The model is equipped with a hybrid, dual Nano-SIM tray and supports the following network bands: 2G GSM (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz), 3G WCDMA (900, 2100 MHz), 4G LTE-FDD (800, 900, 1800, 2100, 2600 MHz). 4G speeds are Cat. 6 ones. The wireless connectivity options of the model include dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Wi-Fi Hotspot, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi Display, HotKnot and Bluetooth 4.0. The device works with GPS and GLONASS and is equipped with a USB Type-C 2.0 port with OTG support. There isn't a 3.5 mm jack, a headphone adapter is provided instead. WP5000 runs on Android 7.1 Nougat with Oukitel's overlay on top.
