Overview

Xiaomi Mi Max 2 is for those of you who are looking for a smartphone with a very large display or a small tablet that provides the connectivity and calls options of a smartphone. An added bonus would be reasonable performance and impressive battery life. Even on paper, it sounds like this model offers all this and is an upgrade over the Mi Max while maintaining an almost identical size and appearance. In our 10-page review below, we will test every major aspect of the smartphone and if everything corresponds to or is better than the specifications, then the Mi Max 2 definitely has a tempting price/quality ratio as it currently retails for around USD 230.

Specifications

Xiaomi Mi Max 2 is equipped with a 6.44-inch IPS screen from Tianma, with an FHD resolution (1080 x 1920), 1000:1 static contrast ratio, 450 nits peak brightness, 72% coverage of the NTSC colour space. It is protected by a 2.5D curved Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The model relies on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 MSM8953 system-on-chip that includes eight Cortex-A53 cores clocked up to 2GHz and an Adreno 506 GPU clocked at 650MHz offering OpenGL ES 3.1 support. The single-channel LPDDR3 RAM measures 4GB and is clocked at 933MHz. The internal memory can be either 32GB, 64GB or 128GB, and can be expanded. The Snapdragon X9 LTE modem inside the chipset supports 4G LTE Cat. 6 speeds and VoLTE along with the following network bands: 2G GSM (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz), 2.5G CDMA 800 MHz, 3G TD-SCDMA (1880-1920, 2010-2025 MHz), 3G UMTS (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz), 4G LTE-FDD (850, 900, 1800, 2100, 2600 MHz), 4G LTE-TDD (1900, 2300, 2500, 2600 MHz). The model also supports dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac with MU-MiMO, Wi-Fi Hotspot, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi Display, Bluetooth 4.2. There's an infrared port, a USB Type-C 2.0 port with OTG support and a 3.5 mm jack. The model works with GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou. Power is provided by a 5300 mAh battery manufactured by Sunwoda Electronic Co. Ltd., model BM50. It supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0, arrives with a 5V/2.5A--9V/2A--12V/1.5A fast charger and should provide up to 57 hours of talk time.
