Ulefone Note 18 Ultra Review

Display

Ulefone Note 18 Ultra is built around a 2.5D curved 6.78-inch in-cell IPS display with an FHD+ resolution (1080 x 2460). It supports a 60 Hz and a 90Hz refresh rate and you can choose between the two from the "Display" menu in the Settings app. A Corning Gorilla Glass protects the screen. The "display" settings also let you customize the Lock Screen, Wallpaper & style, manage the LED notification light, show or hide the notch, set the display size and text, choose a screen saver, etc. Our usual measurements of the white and black luminance, static contrast ratio, and color temperature of the display are published below. If you follow our smartphone reviews, you already know that for a more realistic result, we make two different measurements - on a single frame that displays 50% white and 50% black and on two separate frames displaying a fully white and a fully black screen.

The maximum brightness of our review unit measured from the center on a fully white screen is 487.775 cd/m². This brightness is achieved during the measurement on two separate black-and-white frames. In the other type of measurement on a 50% white and a 50% black screen, we received a white luminance of 342.633 cd/m². There's a proportional difference in the black luminance levels achieved from both measurements, hence, the static contrast ratio does not differ a lot - 1529:1 vs 1490: 1. The temperature of the white point is agreeable in the 8600-8900 K range.

Our brightness uniformity measurement shows that the display is not uniformly bright. The average brightness of the three horizontal sections is as follows: 411 cd/m² at the top, 475 cd/m² in the middle, and 430 cd/m² at the top. The temperature of the white point is around the 8800-9000 K level. The CIE diagram shows a color space coverage that's slightly larger than the 100% sRGB one. The magenta hues and, partially, the blue and red hues should be displayed correctly, while the cyan, green yellow, and orange hues look punchier. The in-cell IPS display has a traditional vertical striped RGB sub-pixel layout. In-cell means that the touch sensor layer is implemented inside the cell of the liquid crystal display (LCD) thus making the unit thinner, more responsive, less power-consuming, and brighter.
