Unihertz Luna Review - impressive design crowning a well-specced smartphone

Overview

Unihertz Luna is the brand's take on creating a more design-oriented smartphone that offers a well-thought-out set of specs and retains a reasonable price. If you look at the specs sheet, it is the Tank stripped off its rugged clad and shaving off 17000 mAh from the battery's capacity. In return, you get quite a looker that will make an impression on everyone who sees it. Let's check the specifications and what's in the box before we proceed to the design.

Specifications

Unihertz Luna has a beautiful 6.81-inch IPS display with an FHD+ resolution and very thin bezels. A Panda MN228 glass is used for its protection. The punch hole in the top left corner of the screen houses the 32MP Samsung S5KGD1 selfie camera with an f/2.0 aperture. On the back, there are three shooters comprising a 108MP Samsung S5KHM2 main camera with an f/1.75 aperture, a 2MP OmniVision OV2680 macro camera with an f/2.4 aperture, and a 20MP Sony IMX350 Night Vision camera with an f/1.8 aperture that is aided by dual IR lights. A 6nm MediaTek Helio G99 (MT6789) chipset ticks under the hood combining a 2.2GHz octa-core CPU and a 1GHz dual-core Mali-G57 GPU. The SoC is paired with 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB of non-expandable UFS 2.2 storage. A 5000 mAh battery powers the device and arrives with an 18W charger. The Unihertz Luna has a dual-SIM card tray and there's no option to expand the storage. Both cards support 4G connectivity simultaneously. The network bands supported by both cards are as follows: 2G GSM (2/3/5/8), 2.5G (BC0/BC1), 3G WCDMA (1/2/4/5/8), 4G TDD-LTE (34/38/39/40/41), and 4G FDD-LTE (1/2/3/4/5/7/8/12/13/17/18/19/20/25/26/28A/28B/66). The wireless connectivity options of the model include Bluetooth 5.3, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi Hotspot, and Wi-Fi Display. The smartphone also supports NFC and has an IR blaster that can easily turn the handset into a convenient remote controller. It works with GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and Beidou and is fitted with a USB Type-C 2.0 port with OTG, a 3.5 mm jack, and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. The device runs on stock Android 12 out of the box.

What's in the box

The box, in which the Unihjertz Luna, is a design statement itself. The perfect rectangle has a satin silver-colored finish that changes slightly its hue depending on how light is reflected. The pattern of RGB LED lights on the rear shell of the device is imprinted on the top of the lid along with the brand's logo with a glossier finish. The model's name is printed on the sides.
