Doogee V20 Review - an excellent upper mid-ranger with OLED display, fancy rugged design, and 5G

Overview

The Doogee V20 is the second model from the Doogee V series and offers a significant upgrade over its predecessor. There are several core features that make this model a smartphone to have. Firstly, it offers a beautiful FHD+ AMOLED display as well as a secondary color display on the back that saves power and is very convenient to check notifications or the time, answer/decline calls. With a modern chipset and 5G connectivity as well as Android 11 with Doogee's flawless overlay it promises to remain adequate for a reasonable amount of time. The camera department shouldn't be overlooked, either, headed by a 64MP main shooter. The 6000 mAh battery and 33W fast charging are no-less important features to consider. Finally, all this is wrapped in a ruggedized body that is resistant to water, dust, drops, other harsh environmental conditions. The Doogee V20 is built around a 6.43-inch AMOLED display with an FHD+ resolution (1080 x 2400) which is a definite upgrade over the HD+ IPS display of the V10. The V20 display offers a typical brightness of 500 cd/m² and 105% NTSC color space coverage. Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protects the screen. The smartphone also has a rear touch-sensitive, color display with a 1.05-inch diagonal. It shows the time and date as well as notifications and options to answer/decline a call, music controls, etc. The camera department sees an upgrade as well headed by a 64MP OmniVision OV64B shooter with an f/1.8 aperture, 90° FoV. The Doogee V20 has a hybrid, dual Nano-SIM tray with both SIM cards supporting 5G. The network bands supported by both cards are as follows: 2G GSM (2/3/5/8), 2.5G (BC0/BC1), 3G WCDMA (1/2/4/5/8), 4G TDD-LTE (34/38/39/40/41), 4G FDD-LTE (B1/2/3/4/5/7/8/12/13/17/18/19/20/25/26/28A/28B/66), and 5G NR (n1/3/5/7/8/20/28/38/40/41/77/78/79). The wireless connectivity options of the model include Bluetooth 5.1, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi Hotspot, Wi-Fi Display. The smartphone also supports NFC and works with GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and Beidou. The device has a USB Type-C port and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. It runs on Android 11 with Doogee's overlay on top. The rugged body is IP68 and IP69K rated for water and dust resistance and has a MIL-STD-810G certification for resistance to drops, shock, pressure, humidity, acidic atmosphere, temperature extremes, and similar types of impact.

What's in the box

Similar to the other more premium smartphones from the brand, the Doogee V20 is placed in a flat, black rectangular box. It has a delicate print that imitates corduroy. The brand logo is placed in a circle in the middle of the top of the box. The model name is in the bottom right corner of the lid.
