Overview

Nokia X5/Nokia 5.1 Plus is a somewhat downgraded version of Nokia X6/Nokia 6.1 Plus. This is a budget smartphone with a premium look and performance that rivals the best mid-rangers. In this Nokia X5 review we will delve into the details and bring out everything we can find about that model to the surface. Just like with other Nokia smartphones from this series, the only difference between the X5 and the 5.1 Plus is the software. The first has Nokia's stylish overlay, while the 5.1 Plus is based on Android One (Android 8.1 Oreo). Here's a brief comparison between the two models for your convenience.

Specifications

Nokia X5/Nokia 5.1 Plus is built around a 5.86-inch TFT display with a notch that has an HD+ resolution (720 x 1520) and a 19:9 aspect ratio. The front and back of the device are covered with a 2.5D curved glass while the frame in between is made of plastic and has an electroplated gloss finish. The model is based on a MediaTek Helio P60 (MT6771V) chipset. Built on the 12nm node, it houses an octa-core CPU with 4x 2GHz Cortex-A73 and 4x 2GHz Cortex-A53 cores. The tri-core 800MHz ARM Mali-G72 MP3 GPU handles the graphics. The model offers two RAM versions - 3GB or 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM, double-channel, clocked at 1600MHz. There are two storage versions as well - 32GB and 64GB. Either way, the built-in storage can be expanded with up to 256GB. The chipset's modem ensures support for the following network bands: 2G GSM (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz), TD-SCDMA (1880-1920, 2010-2025 MHz), UMTS (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz), 4G FDD-LTE (850, 900, 1800, 2100, 2600 MHz) and 4G TDD-LTE (1900, 2300, 2500, 2600 MHz). The handset also supports LTE Cat. 4 and its wireless connectivity options include dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi Hotspot, Wi-Fi Display, Bluetooth 4.2. Nokia X5/Nokia 5.1 Plus works with GPS, A-GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou and is equipped with a USB Type-C 2.0 port with OTG and a 3.5 mm jack. This smartphone has three Samsung cameras. The front one combines an 8MP Samsung S5K4H7 ISOCELL Slim sensor with an f/2.2 lens. The main camera on the back features a 13MP Samsung S5K3L6 ISOCELL Fast sensor with an f/2.0 lens, while the auxiliary snapper arrives with a 5MP Samsung S5K5E9 sensor. A 3060 mAh battery keeps the lights one and is paired with a 5V/2A fast charger. Nokia X5 runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with Nokia's overlay on top, while Nokia 5.1 Plus is an Android One (Android 8.1 Oreo) device.

Nokia X5 arrives in a typical Nokia X box that has a flat rectangular shape and slides out from its lid. On the top of the lid, there's a photo of the device accompanied by the model's name. On the back, there's information about the main specifications and certifications along with another render of the handset. Inside, the device is placed on the left-hand side of the box.
