Overview

AGM (Actions Gain Memory) originates from China and is one of the few manufacturers focused entirely on making rugged smartphones. It has already 8 years of experience in the field and has even created an outdoor environment testing standard for rugged smartphones. While the general audience might not be familiar with the brand, AGM, actually, has true fans among those who rely on rugged devices for their active lifestyle or during their work in extreme conditions. In this review, we examine closely the AGM X1 - a device that brings the idea of rugged elegance to a whole new level and is definitely one of the good examples of a rugged device that packs quality hardware and interesting features, while maintaining an affordable price.

Specifications

AGM X1 features a 5.5-inch display with a Super AMOLED panel and a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. It is protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and graces a rugged, IP68 certified body that combines aluminium alloy, with polycarbonate and rubber. The model's hardware is based on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 MSM8952 system-on-chip. It sports an octa-core CPU consisting of four 1.5GHz Cortex-A53 cores and four 1.2GHz Cortex-A53 cores. The graphics department is ruled by an Adreno 405 GPU. There are 4GB of single-channel LPDDR3 RAM on board, clocked at 933 MHz. The built-in eMMC memory measures 64GB and can be expanded with up to 128GB. The model has an FPC fingerprint sensor embedded in the home button, which is sensitive even to wet fingers. The rest of the sensors include proximity, light, accelerometer, gyroscope, compass, etc. The smartphone has two 13-megapixel rear cameras, each with a 75-degree, 5-element lens and a f/2.2 aperture. They are aided by PDAF and a dual-LED flash. The front-facing snapper is equipped with a 5-megapixel sensor and an85-degree wide-angle lens. AGM X1 supports 2G GSM, 3G WCDMA, and 4G LTE Cat. 4 networks. Its wireless connectivity options include dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi Hotspot, Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth 4.0, and NFC. There's a micro-USB 2.0 port with OTG on board as well. The integrated military-grade positioning system allows it to works with GPS, GLONASS, and BeiDou with great accuracy. The device runs X OS 1.0 based on Android 5.1 Lollipop, while a 5400 mAh Li-Pol battery keeps the lights on. It is coupled with a 5V/2A; 9V/2A; 12V/1.5A fast charger with Quick Charge 3.0. What's in the box

AGM X1 arrives in a big and solid rectangular box in graphite black colour with a brushed effect on the lid and body. The AGM logo is in the top-left corner of the lid. The latter has a sticker with some basic information and certifications of the device. On the back of the box, there's a list of features and specifications in several languages. When you open it, the first thing you see is the smartphone itself. It has the standard protective stickers for the display and back. Below it, a bright yellow user manual is placed and is actually quite detailed. Below the unit, in three separate compartments are an orange micro-USB cable, a black fast charger with a top power output of 18W, and a pair of in-ear headphones with spare silicone pads. A screen protector is provided as well. No SIM tray pin here. The tray is made in such a way as you can easily unplug by hand, so a pin is not needed.
