Oukitel WP27 Review - lovely design, excellent battery life, and reliable performance in an affordable package

Display

Oukitel WP27 is fitted with a 6.78-inch in-cell IPS display with an FHD+ resolution (1080 x 2460) and a 120Hz refresh rate. The latter can be managed from the Display settings which also allow you to adjust the brightness level, switch on/off the adaptive brightness, dark theme, and night light toggles, manage the lock screen, select the color mode, wallpaper, screen saver, and others. The display is protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 that's 1.1 mm thick. The display of the WP27 is very responsive, comfortably bright, and okay to use outdoors. Our usual measurements of the white and black luminance, static contrast ratio, and color temperature of the display are published below. If you follow our smartphone reviews, you already know that for a more realistic result, we make two different measurements - on a single frame that displays 50% white and 50% black and on two separate frames displaying a fully white and a fully black screen.

The maximum brightness of the display of the WP27 we have is 556.319 cd/m² measured from the bottom left corner on a fully white screen. In general, the white luminance of the display measured on two separate black and white frames is higher than the one measured on a single frame showing 50% white and 50% black - 530.148 cd/m² and 445.927 cd/m², respectively. At the same time, the difference in black luminance is not so pronounced - 0.293 cd/m² and 0.276 cd/m², respectively. Either way, the temperature of the point is in the 8100-8400 K range.

Our brightness uniformity measurement shows that the display of the WP27 delivers very close average brightness levels at different points of measurement. The top one-third of the screen has an average brightness of 524 nits and a temperature of the white point of around 8200-8300 K. The middle one-third has an average brightness of around 528 nits and a temperature of the white point again in the 8200-8300 K range. Finally, the bottom one-third has the highest brightness and variety in levels depending on the measurement points with an average brightness of 540 nits. The temperature of the white point at this tier is 8000-8200 K. The CIE diagram shows that the display covers slightly more than 100% of the sRGB color space. The coverage of the blues, cyans, and magentas is almost perfect. However, the coverage of the reds, oranges, and yellows toward greens is not. You will get puncher greens, yellows, and orange hues with subtler reds. The display panel has a traditional vertical striped RGB subpixel arrangement.
