Overview

The adoption of full-screen design smartphones has allowed incorporating large screens on smaller form-factor devices which boosted the market to offer larger and larger screens. Oukitel K9 is going even further tapping into the realm of tablets with its 7.12-inch screen. In addition, it packs a beefy 6000 mAh battery. Still, the handset is quite manageable in terms of width, is not very thick and feels quite lightweight. The screen is huge, indeed, and will appeal to those who are looking for a tablet-like screen real estate while retaining the classic smartphone experience. The K9 ups the main camera a bit, compared to other Oukitel models and packs the latest budget MediaTek chipset - the Helio P35, which we're eager to test not so much in terms of performance but in terms of power efficiency.

Specifications

Oukitel K9 has a 7.12-inch IPS display from AUO with a resolution of 1080 x 2244 pixels. It is covered with a 2.5D curved protective glass and offers a brightness of 500 cd/m². The body and frame are made of plastic with a glossy finish. The device is fueled by a MediaTek Helio P35 (MT6765) chipset that houses an octa-core CPU with four 2.3GHz and four 4x 1.8GHz Cortex-A53 cores. The graphics department is managed by a 680 MHz PowerVR GE8320 GPU. There are 4GB of LPDDR4X double-channel RAM clocked at 1600 MHz on board and 64GB of eMMC 5.1 built-in storage that can be expanded. A 6000 mAh battery keeps the lights on. According to Oukitel, it can charge from zero to 100% in 1 hour and 30 minutes with the included 30W fast charger.

The camera department includes three camera - two rear and one selfie snapper. The main rear camera packs a 16MP Sony IMX298 image sensor, an f/1.8 lens and supports PDAF. It is aided by a 2MP depth-sensing unit, most probably with a GalaxyCore CG2035/2145 sensor. The two rear cameras are accompanied by a dual-tone LED flash and a fingerprint sensor. The selfie camera is located in the waterdrop notch above the display and is equipped with an 8MP GalaxyCore GC8034 image sensor and an f/2.0 lens. It supports face unlock. The device works with the following network bands: 2G GSM (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz), 3G W-CDMA (850, 900, 1700, 1900, 2100 MHz), and 4G LTE (700 MHz Class 17, 800, 850, 900, 1700/2100, 1800, 1900, 2100, 2600, 700 (B12), 800 (B19)) networks with Cat. 6 LTE speeds. Bluetooth 4.2, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Wi-Fi Display, Wi-Fi Direct and Wi-Fi Hotspot are supported as well. The smartphone runs on Android 9 Pie and works with GPS and GLONASS. It has a USB Type-C 2.0 port with OTG support but no 3.5 mm jack.
