Elephone P8 Review

Overview

Four years after the first Elephone P8, this manufacturer from China has decided to create a remake, which however has nothing to do with the older model. Elephone P8 (2017) is a classic mid-ranger with an appealing design, good performance, generous RAM and storage, promising cameras and battery life, display and audio. We have put all those features and more to our usual routine of tests, measurements and research as to provide detailed and accurate information about this model. Ultimately, the facts will speak for themselves and give you a straight answer whether this smartphone lives up to expectations.

Specifications

Elephone P8 is built around a 5.5-inch in-cell IPS display from Japan Display Inc. (JDI). The screen is fully laminated and has a 1080 x 1920 resolution. The top glass layer has a 2.5D curved edge. The model is powered by a 3600 mAh battery combined with a 5V/2A fast charger and its hardware is based on a MediaTek Helio P25 (MT6757CD) system-on-chip. The latter employs four Cortex-A53 CPU cores clocked at 2.5GHz and another quadruplet of those but clocked at 1.6GHz. The graphics are managed by a dual-core 900MHz Mali-T880 GPU. The model has 6GB of dual-channel LPDDR4X RAM clocked at 1600MHz and 64GB of eMMC storage. The camera department includes a 21MP Sony IMX230 primary camera with a 6-element lens, f/2.2 aperture, dual-tone LED flash and PDAF. On the front, a 16MP Samsung S5K3P3SX shooter with an f/2.0 lens sits combined with a soft selfie LED flash. Elephone P8 supports 2G GSM (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz), 3G W-CDMA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz), 4G LTE-FDD (800, 900, 1800, 2100, 2600 MHz), 4G LTE-TDD (2300, 2600 MHz) network bands plus VoLTE. Its wireless connectivity options include dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Wi-Fi Hotspot, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi Display, Bluetooth 4.1. The model is equipped with a Micro-USB 2.0 port, 3.5 mm jack, single bottom-firing speaker, and a front-mounted fingerprint sensor. It works with GPS and GLONASS and runs on Android 7.0 Nougat.
