iiiF150 R2022 Review - the Octagonal Warrior with a big 90Hz display and a Night Vision camera

Overview

The R2022 or Raptor 2022 is iiiF150's second smartphone. It also marks the re-branding of the manufacturer from F150 to iiiF150. Even though it looks like its predecessor, the new model offers a significant upgrade. A bigger, FHD+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate makes it the first rugged smartphone with such a refresh rate. The battery capacity is increased to 8300 mAh. The chipset is upgraded to the Helio G95 by MediaTek. The camera department is also significantly improved and now includes a 64MP main shooter as well as a 20MP night vision camera. Without further ado, let's check the specs of the new device in detail and what's in the box.

Specifications

The iiiF150 R2022 is fitted with a big, 6.78-inch IPS display with an FHD+ resolution (1080 x 2460 pixels). The display is protected by a 1.1 mm thick Corning Gorilla Glass 3 that supports Glove Mode. The rugged body is IP68 and IP69K rated for water and dust resistance and has a MIL-STD-810G certification for resistance to drops, shock, pressure, humidity, acidic atmosphere, temperature extremes, and similar types of impact. The screen has a punch hole, centrally placed in the top area and functioning as the place for the 16MP SK Hynix Hi-1634 front-facing camera. This unit has an f/2.0 aperture, a 5-element lens, and a 77° FoV. On the back, there are three cameras. The first module (from left to right) is the main 64MP Samsung S5KGW3 shooter with an f/1.79 aperture, 81° FoV, 6-element lens. The second "module" is simply for decorative purposes. The third one is the 2MP GalaxyCore GC02M2 macro camera with an f/2.4 aperture, 3-element lens, and an 84° FoV. The main and macro cameras are aided by a quad-LED flash. Finally, there's the 20MP Sony IMX350 Night Vision camera. This is a black-and-white unit that uses two infrared beams as the source of light in order to capture clear black-and-white photos in completely dark environments. This camera has an f/1.8 aperture, 78° FoV, and a 6-element lens.

The iiiF150 R2022 is powered by an 8300 mAh battery with 18W fast charging. Processing power depends on a MediaTek Helio G95 (MT6785V/CD) built on TSMC's 12 nm process. The CPU comprises two 2.05 GHz Cortex-A76 cores and six 2.0 GHz Cortex-A55 cores. The graphics department is managed by a quad-core ARM Mali-G76 GPU clocked at 900MHz. There are 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.1 storage onboard. The latter can be expanded up to 256GB. The iiiF150 R2022 has a triple tray for two Nano-SIM cards and a dedicated slot for a microSD card. Both cards support 4G connectivity simultaneously. The network bands supported by both cards are as follows: 2G GSM (2/3/5/8), 3G WCDMA (1/2/4/5/8), 4G TDD-LTE (38/40/41), and 4G FDD-LTE (1/2/3/4/5/7/8/12/13/17/18/19/20/25/26/28A/28B/66). The wireless connectivity options of the model include Bluetooth 5, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi Hotspot, Wi-Fi Display. The smartphone also supports NFC and works with GPS, GLONASS, and Beidou. The device has a USB Type-C port, a 3.5 mm jack, and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. It runs on Android 11 with iiiF150's UI on top.

What's in the box

The iiiF150 R2022 is placed in a flat, almost square white box. The handset is positioned on the left-hand side of the box and when you pick it up, you'll see a SIM tray pin attached to the bottom of the box. To the device's right, the charger and USB cable are placed together with the warranty certificate, user manual, and a branded card that bears the slogan "No tough, No safe".
