Doogee S90 with Night Vision Camera and Battery pack module review

Overview

Doogee's S smartphone series is known for offering quality ruggedized devices and it looks like Doogee has paired the rugged qualities with all possible additional features. The S30 and S50 were more compact and more focused on extended battery life. Doogee S60 offered a top-level rugged design with more advanced specifications compared to the previous generations. Doogee S70 took this a notch up and added an additional focus - gaming, which was backed by Doogee's own gamepad. It was followed by Doogee S80 that offered the best-ruggedized features currently available plus a walkie-talkie function to turn it into a reliable outdoor tool. Recently, Doogee launched the S90, which aims to satisfy everyone's preferences as this is a modular smartphone. It is compatible with Doogee's gamepad, which you may check out in our S70 review, a Night Vision Camera module, a Battery pack module that doubles the battery capacity, and a walkie-talkie module. Later this year, Doogee will also launch a 5G module for the S90. In this review, we examine an S90 unit bundled with a Night Vision Camera Module and a Battery pack module.

Specifications

Doogee S90 is equipped with a 6.18-inch in-cell IPS display with an FHD+ resolution (1080 x 2246 pixels) and a Corning Gorilla Glass 4 for protection. It graces a ruggedized body with a titanium chassis and a rubber outer layer that is IP68, IP69K, and MIL-STD-810G rated for being resistant to water, dust, shock, drops, extreme temperatures and other extremities. The model arrives with a 5050 mAh battery that supports 10W Qi wireless charging and is paired with a 5V/2A fast charger. As long as it concerns performance, the handset depends on a MediaTek Helio P60 (MT6771V) chipset. It houses a 2GHz octa-core CPU with 4x Cortex-A73 and 4x A53 ones. The graphics department is managed by a tri-core Mali-G72 GPU clocked 800 MHz. There are 6GB of double-channel LPDDR4X RAM, clocked at 1800MHz on board as well as 128GB of eMMC 5.1 storage, expandable with up to 256GB. Doogee S90 features an 8MP Sony IMX134 front camera with an f/2.2 lens and on the back, there are two shooters - a 16MP Samsung S5K3P9 main one and an 8MP GalaxyCore GC8034 auxiliary snapper. They are aided by dual PDAF and quad-LED flash. The smartphone supports 2G GSM (2/3/5/8), 2.5G CDMA (BC0/BC1), 3G WCDMA (1/2/4/5/8), 3G TD-SCDMA (1880-1920, 2010-2025), 4G LTE-FDD (1/2/3/4/5/7/8/12/17/19/20/28A/28B), 4G LTE-TDD (34/38/39/40/41) network bands with LTE Cat. 7 speeds. Both SIM cards on the dual Nano-SIM/microSD slot support simultaneously 4G LTE and VoLTE. The wireless connectivity options include dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Wi-Fi Hotspot, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi Display, and Bluetooth 4.0. NFC with Android Beam is supported as well. The device is equipped with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, a USB Type-C 2.0 port with OTG support and lacks a 3.5 mm jack. The smartphone runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with Doogee's skin on top accompanied by several outdoor software tools. The handset has a number of modules that can be attached to it and enhance its functionalities. These are the night vision camera module, a 5000 mAh battery pack, walkie-talkie module, a gamepad and a 5G connectivity module. What's in the box

Doogee S90 is available with a different set of accessories and modules, hence, the box varies depending on the bundle you have ordered. Our review unit arrived with the night vision camera module and the additional battery pack, all placed in a bulky rectangular box in black colour.
