Design, build and controls

As a piece of industrial design, Ulefone Armor 15 offers a feature that has not been available in mass-produced smartphones so far - built-in TWS earbuds. At a first glance, this is convenient and an interesting feature in its own right. On a second, it also adds to the bulkiness of the smartphone and does consume battery power when the buds have to be charged. Another design feature that combines durability and fashionable looks is the glossy rear shell in an attractive red or blue color. A black option is also available. All other elements follow the classic rugged design paradigm. So let's have a closer look. Ulefone Armor 15 is IP68 and IP69K rated. This means it can survive drops from 1.5 meters, 30 minutes under 1.5 meters of water, and up to 24 hours in 1 meter of concrete. It can also withstand high pressure and extreme temperature environments. The MIL-STD-810G certification suggests the phone is protected against drops, impacts, hazardous crashes, extreme humidity and pressure levels, acidic atmosphere, and solar radiation. As usual, the materials comprising the handset include metal for the chassis and frame, hard polycarbonate for the rear shell as well as TPU for the corners, top and bottom frames, and the rear shell. The device is 79.6 mm wide, 170.2 mm high, and 18.2 mm thick. It tips the scales at 346 grams. The front of the Armor 15 is dominated by the display. It has very substantial top and bottom bezels which are then followed by the top and bottom speaker, respectively. There are two visible screws on the sides of each speaker grille. The top bezel houses the 16MP selfie camera, light and proximity sensor, and the LED notification light. The plastic casing of the display protrudes to ensure additional protection. The type of protective glass has not been specified. Looking onto the back of the handset. The rear shell is "crowned" by a bulky element that houses the TWS earbuds and the two cameras. The buds case has a carbon-fiber-like finish, while the camera module has a protective glass. This hole module protrudes from the rear surface of the handset. The same applies to the bottom one. It has a symmetrical shape nad carbon fiber-like finish and houses a lanyard hook at the very bottom. The Ulefone logo is imprinted on the colored part of the rear shell. The sides of the shell are covered with TPU for improved grip. This TPU covers the top and bottom frame as well as the reinforced corners which have additional cushioning protecting the smartphone during drops. The top frame is the home of the built-in earbuds. There are two insulating caps attached with screws to the frame. You can open them by hand and simply pull out the buds. When you do so, a dialog opens on the screen. Each of the buds has a microphone and an on/off button. At the bottom of each, there are two pogo pins for charging, while they're back in place, inside the phone's body. In order for the buds to work, simply put them out and pair them via Bluetooth. The bottom frame houses the USB Type-C port covered by an insulating cap that's screwed to the frame. The two vertical sides of the frame partially demonstrate the metal part of it. The left one houses the tri-slot tray suitable for two Nano-SIM cards and a microSD card. You can use the pick provided in the box to open the tray. The latter has a red insulating band. Below it, there's a red-colored button. it can be customized to open an app, perform a function, or be disabled. The right frame has plenty of elements as well. There are two separate, small, and circular buttons for the Volume Up and Volume down, an oval power button with an embedded fingerprint sensor, and a dedicated button for the camera.
