Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE Review

Display

The Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE (Xiaomi 2109119DG) is adorned with a 6.55-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels. This DotDisplay with TrueColor is protected by a 2.5D curved Corning Gorilla Glass 6. The screen supports 10-bit color bit depth and a 90Hz refresh rate. It is also HDR10+ and Dolby Vision certified. For the latter, there's a special option to choose either from 60Hz or 90Hz.

Based on the sub-pixel arrangement of this display panel, we can speculate it is made by Visionox. The sub-pixel layout is quite specific - a pixel comprises a small red, a small green, and a big blue sub-pixel. This type of arrangement is called Z-Type arrangement and is typical for Visionox AMOLED displays so far. This type of sub-pixel layout has been teased in 2014 and launched by the company in 2015. There's also a possibility that the display is supplied by PUNET. The graph above combines the results of two measurements. The red line shows the maximum white luminance at different APL % with the automatic brightness on and in high ambient light conditions. The green graph shows the maximum white luminance at different APL % with the automatic brightness off and in normal ambient light conditions. It is clearly visible that in the second case the display has been calibrated to maintain a stable level of a typical brightness - 500 cd/m². When the automatic brightness is on, the curve (red line) is more expressive. Under this mode, we've managed to measure the peak white luminance of this display at 10% APL - 839.197 cd/m². The default color scheme mode of the Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE is "Vivid". Under this mode, we could measure a peak brightness of 803.089 cd/m² with the automatic brightness on and in high ambient light conditions. At the same time, the temperature of the white point was very good - around the 7700-7800 K level.

We have also measured the brightness uniformity of the display under the default "Vivid" color scheme. The table above depicts nine values taken at 100% brightness level on a fully white screen. The results demonstrate a very high level of brightness uniformity - a sign that you get a quality display on a budget smartphone. The color temperature for all nine measurements is relatively stable at around 7700 K.

The Display settings allow you to change the color scheme of the display as well as use some advanced settings in this context. These have been existing for a while in MIUI, but MIUI 12.5 introduces some changes to the names of the color profiles and the options related to them. You can choose from the default Vivid mode, Saturated, Original color. The advanced settings allow DCI-P3 and sRGB manual adjustment. For all five color scheme modes we have measured the maximum brightness and provided information about color space coverage (CIE diagram), and all other standard parameters as seen below.

Vivid Color Scheme

The "Vivid" color scheme is the default one for the display of the Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE. Under this profile, the maximum brightness of our review unit's screen is 499.859 cd/m² with the auto-brightness off and in normal light conditions. The temperature of the white point is around 7600-7700 K. As usual, we do the two-way measurement and in this case, there's a disparagingly minimal difference between the results from the two. The CIE diagram unveils a color space coverage that is far wider than 100% sRGB. You get much punchier green, yellow, orange colors mainly.

Saturated Color Scheme

The "Saturated" color scheme offers a maximum and minimum white luminance that's very close to those of the "Vivid" color scheme - 496.781 cd/m² and 2.265 cd/m², respectively. The temperature of the white point is also very close - 7800 K. However, the CIE diagram of this profile unveils an even wide color space coverage compared to that of the "Vivid" color scheme.

Original Color Scheme

The "Original color" scheme is for everyone who prefers color accuracy and a perfectly calibrated 100% sRGB coverage. The maximum white luminance here is only slightly lower - 471.392 cd/m² but the temperature of the white point hits the nearly-perfect - 6800 K. The CIE diagram shows perfect 100% sRGB coverage.

Advanced Color Scheme - DCI-P3

The "Advanced" color scheme with DCI-P3 adjustment shows a color space coverage that seems identical to that from the "Vivid" mode. Moreover, the maximum white luminance and temperature of the white point also correspond to the levels measured on the "Vivid" color scheme - 495.063 cd/m² and 7800 K, respectively.

Advanced Color Scheme - sRGB

The "Advanced" color scheme with sRGB adjustment shows a color space coverage that's lower than 100% sRGB. At the same time, its maximum brightness and temperature of the white point are in unison with the typical levels - 496.333 cd/m² and 7780 K, respectively.
