8849 Tank 2 by Unihertz is based on the MediaTek Helio G99 (MT6789) chipset - a SoC that has proven over time and in many devices that it provides reliable performance and reasonable power efficiency. Introduced in 2022, it is manufactured using TSMC's 6 nm process technology and is used on more than 50 mobile devices. The chipset offers an octa-core CPU with two Cortex-A76 cores clocked at 2.2 GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 2.0 GHz. A 1 GHz dual-core Mali-G57 MC2 GPU handles the graphics department. There are 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM clocked at 2133 MHz and 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage onboard. Of those 256GB, 232GB are available to the user. The RAM can be virtually expanded with up to 10GB. The built-in storage can also be expanded via a dedicated microSD card slot. Other smartphones which we have reviewed and are based on the same Helio G99 chipset are Ulefone Armor 21, Unihertz Jelly Star, Ulefone Power Armor 19T, Unihertz Luna, Ulefone Power Armor 19, Doogee S100, Unihertz Tank, and Ulefone Armor 17 Pro. Oru review unit scored 446,308 points on AnTuTu 10 and 378,780 points on AnTuTu 9. Both results are typical for smartphones based on the Helio G99 chipset. The single-core and multi-core Geekbench 5 results also show a solid performance level and place it among devices based on the Dimensity 700 and the Snapdragon 730G chipsets. The PCMark Work 3.0 result supports these findings, too. The Sling Shot and Wild Life result from the 3DMark set of tests are also very close to those of the other smartphones based on the same SoC.
