Battery Tests
Xiaomi Mi A3 is equipped with a 4030 mAh battery that supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 3 and arrives with a 5V/2A fast charger. It also supports 18W fast charging but you must get a separate charger for that. All battery tests we run on the devices we review are developed by us and performed with the screen of the device being calibrated to 200 cd/m2.
The battery of our review unit charged in full for 2 hours and 14 minutes with the provided USB data cable and charger. The process maintains a steady pace from the start until the battery reaches 90% of its capacity, which happens approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes from the start. After that, charging slows down a bit and the battery needs 24 minutes to reach 100% of its capacity. The battery temperature starts at 26°C and in 1 hour reaches its peak of 38°C which is maintained for 25 minutes. After that, the temperature starts decreasing until it reaches 30°C at the end.
During our intensive browsing test, the battery of our review unit lasted for 10 hours and 22 minutes. The discharging process is slow for the first 20 minutes during which the battery loses only 1-2% of its capacity. After that, discharging gains speed and flows steadily until the end. The battery temperature starts at 31°C and in 1 hour reaches 36°C, remaining at this level until the end.
1920x1080, 30 fps, H.264, 20Mbps bitrate
The video test for battery life uses a 1080p video at 30 fps with a ~20Mbps rate is used. Our review unit's score from this test is 17 hours and 42 minutes. The discharging pattern is relatively steady with a slow start. The battery temperature starts at 33°C and in 9 hours drops to 32°C maintaining this level for 3 hours. After that, it gradually increases to reach 33°C in the end.
3840x2160, 30 fps, H.264, ~55 Mbps bitrate
The 4K video battery life test uses a 2160p video at 30 fps with a ~55 Mbps rate. In this test, the battery lasted for 15 hours and 42 minutes. The discharging process begins slowly but in 27 minutes it speeds up and maintains the same pace until the end. The battery temperature starts at 31°C and in 27 minutes reaches 34°C. Immediately after this peak, it starts decreasing dropping to 32°C in 10 hours and starting to increase again to reach 34°C in the end.
YEBIS OpenGL ES 3.0 3D Tech Demo
For the 3D Graphics/Gaming test, the YEBIS OpenGL ES 3.0 3D Tech Demo is used. The battery of our review unit lasted for 8 hours and 56 minutes. Again, the process is slow for the first 20 minutes during which the capacity drops by 1-2%. After that, discharging gains speed and maintains a steady pace until the end. The battery temperature starts at 31°C and in 1 hour and 30 minutes, it reaches 37°C. It maintains this level until the end with occasional ups to 38°C and downs back to 37°C.

Battery Software
The Battery menu from the settings is a typical Android 9 one. It offers information about the battery status, apps status and three toggles - for the battery saver, the battery percentage and the adaptive battery feature. Battery usage history is available as well. The battery saver can be turned on/off manually or can be set to turn on automatically when the battery drops to a pre-selected percentage. The adaptive battery feature learns over time and intelligently limits battery for apps that you don't use often. From the Apps settings, you can also manage your battery optimization for applications.
