REDMAGIC Astra 2 Design, Build, and Controls

The REDMAGIC Astra 2 is built around a premium minimalist philosophy that reflects the brand's gaming heritage. Every element of its exterior is shaped with performance, convenience, and safety in mind - from the materials chosen to the ergonomics and functional details. It's a device that looks refined enough for everyday use yet unmistakably engineered for high‑intensity gaming, blending clean geometry, durable construction, and thoughtful interaction design into a single, cohesive form. The tablet adopts a completely flat design on both sides, creating a sleek, modern profile with no camera bump to interrupt the surface. Its chassis combines aviation‑grade aluminum with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for the front, forming a premium metal body accented by a transparent window on the rear shell that reveals part of the cooling system beneath. Rounded corners improve grip comfort during long sessions, while the overall silhouette remains sharp, stable, and purpose‑driven. Durability is reinforced through an IP54 rating, providing dust protection and resistance to water splashes from any direction. Available colors include Eclipse (black) and Starfrost (white). We are reviewing a black version. The REDMAGIC Astra 2 stands out as one of the most compact and lightweight 9‑inch tablets available, engineered for true one‑hand comfort. Its footprint is remarkably small and equals that of its predecessor - just 6.9 mm thin, 207 mm wide, and 134.2 mm high. However, with a weigt of 363 grams, the Astra 2 becomes the lightest model in its class at present. Despite this ultra‑slim profile, the tablet houses a large battery and a full liquid‑cooling system , an impressive feat of internal engineering that doesn't compromise portability. The result is a device that feels effortlessly light yet unexpectedly powerful, combining everyday convenience with the thermal headroom needed for extended gaming sessions. The REDMAGIC Astra 2 features an unconventional 9.06‑inch display with a 16:10 aspect ratio that dominates the entire front surface, framed by exceptionally slim 4.9 mm bezels - the thinnest in its class. In landscape orientation, the selfie camera sits centered along the top bezel, with the light sensor positioned just to its left, creating a balanced, unobtrusive layout ideal for gaming and media. The front is finished with a seamless uniglass panel, subtly bordered by the slightly raised aluminum frame, which adds both structure and protection without interrupting the tablet's clean geometry. On‑screen gesture navigation is enabled by default, offering a modern, fluid interface, though users can switch to virtual navigation buttons if they prefer a more traditional control scheme. The rear shell of the tablet features a sleek matte‑black finish with a clean, uninterrupted surface that emphasizes REDMAGIC's gaming‑centric aesthetic. The shield‑like REDMAGIC logo is embossed at the center with a glossy finish, adding a strong visual anchor to the design. Along the top portion of the back, a partially transparent panel runs horizontally across the width of the device. This panel incorporates sharp geometric detailing and printed branding such as the "Win More Games" slogan, reinforcing the performance‑focused identity. Its far right integrates the rear camera and dual flash, maintaining the tablet's flat profile. The REDMAGIC logo is transparent, exposing the fluorescent coolant underneath along with a stylized visual of the liquid cooling system. Both parts are synced with the RGB atmosphere light system and behave accordingly. This customizable fluorescent RGB lighting adds a dynamic, futuristic touch, allowing users to personalize the tablet's visual identity. When held in landscape orientation, the Astra 2 distributes its controls and components across the frame with a clear, functional layout. The top edge houses the volume rocker, the two microphones, and the signature red Magic Key slider, which launches Game Space by default but can be reassigned for tasks like triggering the camera shutter or activating quick tools. The left side integrates one of the dual stereo speakers alongside the power button, which includes an embedded fingerprint sensor for fast, secure unlocking. On the right side, you'll find the USB Type-C 2.0 with 40W charging support and the second stereo speaker. The bottom frame houses the USB Type-C 3.2 Gen 2 with OTG and DisplayPort Alt Mode, 75W charging support.
