OS, UI and software
AGM H6 runs on stock Android 13 with all the typical traits for this version of the OS. The lock screen has a minimalistic layout with a huge Clock widget, a tiny Date widget, and the status bar icons. A swipe-up is the default screen unlock style. You land on the Home Screen headed by a Google search bar with Lens and Voice search integrated. Below, there's the row of favorite apps and the row of docked apps. There's a second desktop with a second row of favorite apps. A swipe to the right opens Google Discover. Desktop shortcuts are supported. The Task Manager lists the app previews horizontally with options to access the app info and enter split-screen mode (if supported). The Clear All button is listed at the end of the list of apps - to the very left.
A swipe from the bottom up opens the app drawer. From the Home Settings, you can toggle off Google Discover and choose the other launcher type that lists the apps on consecutive desktops following the Home Screen. You can also directly access the wallpaper and style options from the customization picker along with a list of standard widgets. The Notifications shade and the Quick Settings toggles have a typical design and layout for Android 13. The accent color of the entire UI is light pastel purple.
AGM H6 arrives with a minimal set of pre-installed apps, including Assistant, Calculator, Calendar, Camera, Chrome, Clock, Contacts, Drive, Files, Find Device, FM Radio, Gmail, Google, Keep Notes, Maps, Meet, Messages, Phone, Photos, Play Store, Safety, Settings, Sound Recorder, YouTube, and YT Music. There's an app called Clear and what it does is clear all applications from the background and free RAM. All apps are in their stock design.
The Settings menu has a classic Android 13 layout with no grouping of the sub-menus. The standard search bar on top is followed by a list of settings. As usual, they begin with the connectivity options. The first two menus are called "Network & Internet" and "Connected Devices". The first is about setting up your Wi-Fi connection, preferences, Wi-Fi Direct, Hotspot and tethering, VPN, mobile plan, and Data saver options. The second is about the connections of your smartphone to other devices via USB, Bluetooth, NFC, and Cast display. Under this menu, you will also discover the Quick share options, Android Auto, Chromebook, and Printing services.
"Apps" and "Notifications" are the third and fourth menus, respectively. The "Apps" one provides information about the recently opened apps, default apps, screen time, unused apps, and special app access settings. The "Notifications" one fine-tunes the app notifications, history, conversations, bubbles as well as the notifications in the context of privacy. DND mode, various general settings as well as wireless emergency alert settings are also included in this menu. The "Battery" menu is described in detail in the corresponding section of this review. It is followed by the "Storage" one, which offers the same information about current storage status and management tools such as a toggle for the storage manager.
The "Scheduled power on/off" menu is seventh and is followed by the "Sound" one. It includes the standard volume level bars for media, calls, alarms, rings, and notification volume. Sound DND mode settings, sound enhancement, and various system sound options follow including settings for the emergency dialing signal. The "Display" menu is next, followed by the "Wallpaper & style" one. The "Smart controls" options offer features that might come in handy in various situations. You can activate a double-tap on the screen to wake feature, lift to check your phone, and use smart motions such as flipping the device to mute calls or answering a call by simply placing the handset next to your ear. The "Side Key Function" lets you assign actions or apps to the customizable physical button on the left frame. You can choose from associations with a single click, a double click, and a long press on it. The "Accessibility" menu is next and contains tools for people with visual and hearing impairments to take the most out of their interaction with the device. There are screen reader settings, magnifier, captions and audio settings, accessibility menu and shortcuts, etc.
"Security" is the name of the following menu with options for screen lock, face & fingerprint unlock, smart lock, device admin apps settings, encryption & credentials, app piing, and the four default services - Google Play Protect, Security Update, Find My Device, and Google Play System Update. It is followed by the "Privacy" menu, including the Privacy Dashboard, Android System Intelligence, Autofill service from Google, Activity controls, and other features related to privacy. The "Location" menu comes next with permissions for apps to use your location and location services. It is followed by the "Safety & emergency" menu that allows you to enter emergency information, set an SOS signal, turn on/off the emergency location service, and set wireless emergency alerts. Then, there's the "Passwords & accounts" menu for managing your saved passwords, autofill services, and accounts associated with your smartphone.
The next menu is called "Digital Wellbeing & Parental Controls" and it contains the dashboard, bedtime mode, focus mode, heads-up, notifications, and DND mode. The "Google" menu with services and preferences is next followed by the "System" menu. From here you can set up the device's languages and input, choose between gesture or on-screen button navigation, activate the one-handed mode, enable the "Multiple users" feature, set the date and time, backup data, check for system updates, and reset the device. Finally, there's the "About Phone" menu with model name, SIM status, software build versions, etc.
