nubia Z60 Ultra Photographer Edition Review
You can buy nubia Z60 Ultra Photographer Edition from nubia's official European store.

Design, build and controls

nubia Z60 Ultra Photographer Edition is a special design edition of the the classic Z60 Ultra model. We welcome nubia's decision to offer a bold approach to the design of the Z60 Ultra in general. With its flat sides and sharp corners it contrasts with the masses of devices that look one and the same. The main design accent is the camera island. It occupies the top one-third of the rear shell extending from edge to edge. Combined with various shapes, colors, and textures, it creates a sought after shocking visual experience. However, achieving a bold appearance is not the only reason to position the three cameras the way they are. By allocating them in this way, nubia avoids possible interference of internal magnets caused by the OIS and autofocus of the three units. The camera island on the nubia Z60 Ultra has two clearly defined areas designed in such a way as to resemble the outlook of classic photo cameras. The top area houses the ultra-wide camera, the triple led flash, and the laser sensor. It has a brushed metallic finish in bright silver color. The lower part is in black or dark gray color (depending on the light) and houses the main camera with a big red circle around the module and the telephoto camera using a rectangular module. The "Photographer Edition" sign is placed above the telephoto camera. The entire camera island has a glass cover and protrudes from the surface of the rear shell, the rest of which is made of glass with a dual 3D laser-etched leather texture. Yes, that's glass that looks and feels a lot like plastic but has partially retained its reflective properties and feels very delicate to the touch. A thin brushed metal band at the bottom of the rear shell harmonizes the overall visual effect. The chassis and all four sides of the frame are made of aerospace-grade metal. The frame is in black color with a matte finish and spans as a single band around the device. The front is adorned with a huge 2.5D curved display with extremely thin bezels. The invisible front camera creates a truly immersive and uninterrupted full display experience. The immersive experience is further enhanced by the dual stereo speakers - one at the bottom and one that doubles as a receiver placed in a tiny slit between the display and the frame. We managed to capture the selfie camera lens with a quick transition between screens on the device. The top frame of the device houses an IR blaster and a microphone. The bottom one has a lot more elements. Here you will see the USB 3.1 Type-C port, the bottom speaker, a second microphone, and the SIM card tray. The latter allows you to use two Nano-SIM cards and there's no option for using a microSD card for storage expansion. The SIM tray has a red insulating band and the whole device is IP68-rated for being resistant to water and dust. The left frame does not have any elements. The right one houses the Volume rocker, the Power button colored in bright orange and a striped textured surface, and the slider button with a checkered texture surface. The slider can be customized and used either as a physical shutter for the camera, a mute button, or a key for recording, launching the flashlight, or game space. In terms of footprint and handheld experience, the nubia Z60 Ultra Photographer Edition excels in both. It is the most compact model among all smartphones with 6.8-inch displays and 6000 mAh batteries. It is 76.35 mm wide, 163.98 mm tall, and 8.78 mm thick. In addition, the device weighs 246 grams. It lies steadily in the hand and the textured rear glass is not slippery. Moreover, nubia has provided lots of tools for customization, including a one-handed mode, various accessibility features, and others.
