AGM H5 Review - a good looking and reliable rugged smartphone

Display

AGM H5 is fitted with a 6.512-inch IPS screen with an HD+ resolution (720 x 1600 pixels). The protective glass is not specified by AGM. The display settings are quite standard allowing you to toggle on/off auto-brightness, dark theme, night light, auto-rotation of the screen, and the lift to wake function. You can also manually set the brightness level, screen timeout, font and display size, choose lock screen content and a screen saver. There's a "Colors" sub-option that does not display any actual settings.

AGM mentions 450 nits of typical brightness for the H5 display. However, the average/typical brightness we've measured is higher and closer to 550 nits with the maximum one being 604.168 cd/m2 measured on a fully white screen. Below you will find our usual measurements of the white and black luminance, static contrast ratio, and color temperature of the display taken twice - on a single frame that displays 50% white and 50% black and on two separate frames displaying a fully white and a fully black screen.

A single frame, 50% white / 50% black

Brightness White luminance Black luminance Contrast Color temperature
100 % 479.639 cd/m2 0.308 cd/m2 1557 : 1 8313 K
0 % 0.972 cd/m2 0.000 cd/m2 - 8346 K

Two separate black and white frames

Brightness White luminance Black luminance Contrast Color temperature
100 % 604.168 cd/m2 0.394 cd/m2 1533 : 1 8255 K
0 % 1.527 cd/m2 0.000 cd/m2 - 8303 K
The white and black luminance of the display measured on two separate white and black frames is notably higher than the white and black luminance measured on one screen that shows 50% white and 50% black. The maximum brightness on a 100% white screen is 604.168 cd/m2 and on a 50% white screen, it is 479.639 cd/m2. However, the black luminance from the first measurement is also higher than the one of the second, hence, the ratio between the white and black is preserved and regardless of the type of measurement, the static contrast ratio remains one and the same - an average of 1550:1. The temperature of the white point is an average of 8300 K in all types of measurements, including the measurements to detect the display brightness uniformity seen below.
Display brightness uniformity
Position Left Center Right
Top 519.780 cd/m2 / 7934 K 538.761 cd/m2 / 7877 K 523.178 cd/m2 / 7826 K
Center 582.085 cd/m2 / 8062 K 606.738 cd/m2 / 8057 K 585.533 cd/m2 / 8061 K
Bottom 554.430 cd/m2 / 8163 K 588.185 cd/m2 / 8212 K 574.727 cd/m2 / 8247 K
Our brightness uniformity measurement shows that the display is not uniformly bright. The top one-third is the least bright with an average brightness of 529 cd/m2. The mid-one-third is the brightest part of the screen with an average of 595 cd/m2. The bottom one-third is the mid-bright one with an average of 570 cd/m2. The temperature of the white point exceeds is within the 7800-8200 K range.
The CIE diagram shows that the display sRGB color space coverage gravitates around 100% with deviations in the reds and greens area. Green, yellow, and orange hues will look punchier while the red and pink ones will look a bit more subtle. The display panel has a traditional vertical striped RGB subpixel arrangement.
