Cubot X20 Pro Review
You can buy an Cubot X20 Pro at a promotional price from GearBest.

OS, UI and software

The Cubot X20 Pro runs on almost stock Android 9 Pie with the latest OS features on board. No bloatware at all. The Lock Screen has the default Camera and Voice search shortcuts in the bottom right and left corners, respectively as well as a time/date widget. A simple swipe and you land on the Home Screen topped by the Voice Search bar, time/date widget, a row of favourite apps and a docked row of apps. The bottom is occupied by the stock Android 9 navigation bar+gestures. A swipe up or to the right opens the Task Manager, which tiles the apps horizontally and supports split-screen mode. If you continue the swipe up gesture, you will go to the app page, where all applications are listed in alphabetic order with an app search bar on top. A swipe to the right from the Home Screen (not the navbar), opens the Google App which you can disable from the Home Screen Settings - these can be accessed either from the System Settings or from the Widgets menu. Desktop Shortcuts are supported as well. The Notifications are stock Android 9 Pie ones in terms of design and functionality and so are the Quick Settings.
Cubot X20 Pro arrives with a standard set of Google and default Android apps. The first group includes Chrome, Drive, Duo, Gmail, Maps, Photos, Play Music, Play Store, Voice Search, YouTube. The default Android apps include Calendar, Calculator, Camera, Clock, Contacts, FM Radio, Messenger, Phone, Sound Recorder. There's an ETSW warning app as well.
The Settings menu of the Cubot X20 Pro are quite standard in terms of a choice of settings, appearance and functionality. However, they might use of bit of structure optimization. The list begins with a settings search bar followed by the "Network & internet" settings which manage the Wi-Fi preferences, hotspot and tethering, Wi-Fi Direct, mobile data usage, SIM cards, VPN, etc. The second group manages the model's connections to other devices via Bluetooth, Wi-Fi Display, NFC, USB connections, printing services. The third group of options allows you to manage the apps and notifications, including app permissions, default apps, special app access, notification dots, lock screen notifications, etc. It is followed by the Battery settings which are discussed in the corresponding part of this review. The Display menu is fifth and allows you to manage the brightness level, display and font size, screen saver, switch on/off the adaptive brightness, wallpapers, screen sleep and auto-rotate. This group also contains Night Light settings for more comfortable viewing in dark environments and the LED notification light options. The Sound group of settings is fifth and contains the standard set of options. The sound enhancement features are two and include BesLoudness and Hi-Fi Mode.
The Storage menu provides options to free up space and enable the storage manager. The Security & Location group of settings comes next and contains the standard set of options beginning with Google Play Protect, Find My Device, and Security update. Then, it continues with the screen lock settings, Lock Screen preferences, Smart Lock settings, privacy and data protection options. The Face Unlock menu allows you to store, delete and manage your face ID used for unlocking the smartphone when the screen is on. The Security menu is followed by the Accounts and Accessibility settings which also offer nothing different. The Navigation bar settings are listed as a separate menu and allow you to hide the navbar and swap the back button's position. The Digital Wellbeing menu, which is one of the latest Android features finds its way on the Cubot X20 pro. It is followed by the Google settings and the System one. The latter is about settings the language, time, backing up and resetting the device, checking for updates and checking the phone's data. The Multiple Users menu has found its way in the System Settings and is, actually, the already familiar tool for adding users and setting owner and guest rights for using the phone.
