Blackview P10000 Pro Review
You can buy a Blackview P10000 Pro at a promotional price from here.

OS, UI and software

Blackview P10000 Pro runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat with Blackview's overlay on top. We have a confirmation from a Blackview representative that there won't be an upgrade to Android 8.0 Oreo for the P10000 Pro. Blackview's overlay offers a change in icons mainly and the overall feeling is of almost stock Android. As usual, the Lock screen includes the Voice Search and Camera apps in the bottom left and right corners, respectively. A swipe up unlocks the phone and you're greeted by the Home screens. It contains the Google search bar, a Time/Date widget (both can be removed), a row of favourite apps plus a Google app folder and a docked row of apps. There's an App Drawer listing all apps on one page in alphabetic order with an app search bar on top. The Task Manager tiles the apps vertically, contains a Clear All icon and supports split-screen mode. There's a White list as well, from where you can choose the apps that should be protected from clearing. The Widgets menu contains the usual choices of widgets and wallpapers plus a shortcut to the Settings menu. The Notifications cards maintain Android Nougat's design and functionality, while the Quick Settings shade features Blackview's design with black background and new icons. In terms of functionality and features, they are preserved in their stock Android Nougat variant.
Blackview P10000 Pro arrives with the very basic set of Google apps and the default Android apps complemented by a small number of tools. The Google apps include Chrome, Drive, Duo, Gmail, Google App, Maps, Photos, Play Music, Play Store, Voice Search, and YouTube. The standard Android apps include the Browser, Calculator, Calendar, Camera, Clock, Contacts, Downloads, File Manager, FM Radio, Gallery, Messenger, Music, Phone, Sound Recorder. All those apps are in their stock appearance and functionality.
The model also arrives with Blackview's proprietary Notes application, Compass, Emergency app for ETWS alerts and a Torch. In addition to those, you will also see the Kika Store app, from where you can download themes, emojis, fonts, etc. Finally, there's the Info Hub application, which offers the latest news in entertainment, sports, business and other topics of interest. The System Manager offers several tools for optimizing the performance of your device. The first one is the Power Management tool, which is discussed in detail in the Battery section of this review. There's a Rubbish Cleaner for optimizing the storage, Application Lock, which requires a password and (if you choose so) fingerprint authorization in order to open a selected app, App Autoboot (list of apps that are allowed to autoboot), Application Freeze, which allows you to freeze an app so it behaves as if it is uninstalled, and an App Autoclean service - this one duplicates the White list option from the Task Manager - it protects selected apps from being cleared when you want to free RAM and save power.
The Settings menu is a typical Android 7.1 Nougat one in terms of structure but is extended even further with additional options. Let's have a closer look at it. The icons that mark the sub-groups of settings have undergone a re-design from Blackview. The first group of options is the Wireless & networks one. It follows the usual list of suggestions and allows you to set up and manage your wireless connections, cellular data and mobile networks, SIM cards, etc. The second group of settings manages the device's properties starting with the Display. This menu includes the MiraVision settings and contains the usual brightness level, adaptive brightness toggle, screensaver, wallpapers, Cast display, LED notification and Navigation bar options, etc. The Device group continues with Notifications, Sound, and Apps settings. They are followed by the Storage, Battery, and Memory menus which allow you to monitor and manage the performance of the corresponding units. With that the standard list of Device options is complete. However, it has been expanded with a number of non-stock settings.
The first one is dubbed Gestures and contains only one toggle for "Jump to camera" - if you press the Volume button twice, this will open the Camera app. It is followed by a Full-Screen Mode menu for apps that support full-screen view - all are set to support it, so from here, you can only manage newly installed applications. Then there's the Gesture Motion with three sub-menus: Telephony Motion (turn to silence), System Motion (three-finger screenshot, three-finger gesture to open the camera, two-finger volume adjustment, double tap to lock), and Smart Somatosensory (unlock by the wave of the hand, navigating through files in the Music app, release shutter button in the Camera app, move to the next page in the Launcher). There's a One-handed Mode option as well followed by a Fast Capture toggle. The Split-Screen menu only explains what this mode is about. The last menu from the Device group is the QR Code scanner. We think this list could have been optimized.
The third group of settings is named Personal and from here, you can manage your location, accounts and Google settings, languages and keyboards, you can backup or reset the device. A major section of this group is the Security one. It allows you to set up and manage a screen lock, fingerprint ID(s), Face ID, Smart Lock features, phone encryption, passwords, etc. The fingerprint menu allows you not only to save and delete an ID but also use it for various purposes - unlocking the smartphone, opening an app, app lock. There's a separate Fingerprint menu, which allows you to associate various actions to different actions with the sensor, even you don't have an ID stored. For example, a single touch may be associated with a Back command or a long touch may be associated with opening the Task Manager. The Face Unlock menu also allows you to save and delete a Face ID. You can use both fingerprint and face ID unlock. The fourth and last Settings group is called System and contains the standard Date & time, Accessibility, Printing, Schedule power on & off, and About Phone menus.
