Cubot P20 Review
You can buy a Cubot P20 at a promotional price from Cubot's official AliExpress store.

Primary camera

The camera department of Cubot P20 is identical to that of the X18 Plus in terms of hardware. There are two rear shooters. The main one is equipped with a 16MP Samsung S5K3P3SX sensor, software interpolated to 20 megapixels. It is Samsung's second generation of ISOCELL stacked BSI CIS, and it is the first to use a full ISOCELL isolation (full depth of CIS substrate) front-side deep trench isolation (F-DTI) between pixels, vertical transfer gate (VTG), and 1.0 µm pixel pitch. The sensor is combined with a 5-element lens with an f/2.0 aperture. The camera is aided by a 1A LED flash. It takes photos with a resolution of 5184 x 3888 pixels and shoots 1080p videos at 30 fps. There's a second rear snapper with a VGA sensor, probably a GalaxyCore GC03010 one, that is interpolated to 2 megapixels. It cannot serve as a separate camera and is used only when shooting in the Blur mode. However, just like with all other budget dual-camera smartphones, the blur/bokeh effect is quite artificial. There are a number of other smartphones which we have already reviewed and use a 16MP Samsung S5K3P3 for their rear cameras: Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro, Gionee S8, Ulefone Future, Vernee Apollo Lite, Doogee Mix, Ulefone T1 , Ulefone Armor 2, Blackview BV8000 Pro, Oukitel Mix 2, Oukitel K6, Oukitel K10, Ulefone Power 3, Cubot X18 Plus, Oukitel WP5000, Cubot Power.

Secondary camera

The front-facing cameras of the P20 and the X18 Plus are one and the same as well. The sensor in use is an 8MP GalaxyCore GC8024 one, software interpolated to 13 megapixels. It has a 1/4" size and a 1.12μm pixel size and is coupled with a 4-element lens with an f/2.8 aperture. The camera takes photos with a resolution of 4160 x 3120 pixels and shoots 720p videos at 30 fps. This sensor is used by the front cameras of the following smartphones we have reviewed: Doogee Mix 2 (as an auxiliary front snapper), Oukitel U18, Doogee BL9000, Cubot X18 Plus, Cubot Power.

Camera App

The Camera application is rather simple and familiar in terms of looks and functionality. The shutter button is in the bottom's centre with the shortcut to the list of images and videos to its left. The various shooting modes are listed horizontally above it and include - Photo (default), Video, FaceBeauty (with a slider for the degree of beautification effect), Blur (with a slider for the blur degree), Mono, Panorama and PRO (manual adjustment of the white balance, ISO and exposure). Unfortunately, you cannot swipe through the menus. You have to tap on a mode you don't want to use in order to get access to the far left or far right shooting mode. Up to 4x digital zoom is supported and you can select the zoom degree from the small icon above the list of modes. The arrow that appears in the centre of the left side opens the list of 12 filters. The top of the screen contains the flash options, camera switch and camera settings shortcut. The main camera supports HDR for shooting photos and videos and it can be accessed after you open the camera settings. They are very simple and include only the very basic options such as photo and video resolution, face recognition, shutter sound, self-timer, anti-flicker, GPS location, etc.
The interface for the front camera is largely the same, however, not all modes are supported - Video, Photo, FaceBeauty and Mono are available. HDR is supported as well. The camera settings are the same. Google Photos is the only pre-installed app with which you can open and edit photos. The editing options include adjusting the position, adding filters, adjusting the saturation, brightness, contrast, etc. Google Lens is integrated into the Photos application. This feature is designed to bring relevant information using visual analysis based on deep learning routines. All in all, it can intelligently recognize objects from an image and show relevant search results and information.
