Unihertz rolls our Android 16 for Jelly Star with new tools, security patch, and smarter features

Unihertz rolls our Android 16 for Jelly Star with new tools, security patch, and smarter features Add as a preferred source on Google Unihertz has officially begun rolling out the Android 16 update for the Jelly Star, bringing a refreshed OS, new privacy tools, gesture controls, and the latest security patch to the ultra‑compact smartphone. The company announced that the upgrade is now live for the first wave of users, marking one of the most significant software jumps the device has received. The device was launched in 2023 with Android 13. Back than we tested this device and you can check our in-depth Unihertz Jelly Star review.

The rollout follows a phased approach. The first batch includes 1,000 users, giving Unihertz time to collect feedback before expanding distribution. A second, larger batch is planned for mid‑September. Users outside the initial group are encouraged to wait patiently as the update scales.

Android 16 introduces a wide range of new features to Jelly Star. The system has been fully upgraded, accompanied by the July 5, 2026 security patch. Social app cloning is now supported, allowing users to run multiple instances of apps like messaging or social platforms. Custom shortcuts have been expanded, and a redesigned System Manager adds App Lock, Privacy Space, and a Garbage Cleaner for better control over security and storage.

AI Circle Search makes its debut under Intelligent Assistance, offering a faster way to look up information on screen. Gesture controls also receive an upgrade, including volume adjustment via finger gestures. Google Assistant and the Recorder app have been updated, while the scheduled power on/off timer has been removed.

Because this is a major cross‑version upgrade, Unihertz strongly advises users to back up their data before installing. The company notes that older niche apps may behave differently under Android 16, and users who prioritize maximum stability should consider the timing of their update carefully.

Unihertz also warns against using unofficial flashing tools. Installing the ROM through unsupported methods may erase essential system parameters, requiring the device to be sent to the after‑sales technical department for reconfiguration - a repair not covered by warranty.

The update can be checked manually via Settings → About Phone → System Update.
