Android Oreo (Go edition) for entry-level smartphones is official

Android Oreo (Go edition) for entry-level smartphones is officialGoogle has launched a Go Edition of Android 8.0 Oreo. Android Go has been started as a project earlier this year and is designed especially for entry-level smartphones that are low in RAM (512MB-1GB) and storage. Today Google has announced in India Android Oreo (Go edition). It includes lightweight versions of Google's apps as well such as YouTube, Maps, Gmail, Files, Chrome, Assistant, etc. All of them have a "Go" at the end of their names. As long as it concerns memory capacity, Google says that this lightweight OS provides two times more free space on smartphones with 8GB of storage compared to a classic Android 8.0 Oreo. In addition, app load time is 15% faster. Moreover, the Data Saver feature of Chrome is built into Android Go and is enabled by default. Google Play Protect is also built-in. This lightweight Android Oreo comes in quite handy as most of the entry-level smartphones run on outdated Android versions. With this new OS, Google will be able to provide the latest Android services to a larger mass of users, especially in markets such as India. Manufacturers already have access to Android Oreo (Go edition), so the first devices with this OS should appear in the upcoming months.Source
