Indian smartphone market registers a 20% growth, Xiaomi is a top vendor for a fourth consecutive quarterToday IDC India released its Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker for Q2 of 2018. It unveils a serious year-over-year growth of 20% in the local market, which is even more significant when we take into account that on a worldwide basis the smartphone is stagnant and even experiences a decrease. The forecast is that the Indian smartphone market will continue to grow in the years to come. The top 5 vendors in the market accumulate 79% of the whole smartphone market in India in the second quarter. For a fourth consecutive quarter, Xiaomi is the top local vendor. It dominates the online space (56% of all smartphone shipments during the quarter) and its offline presence is growing (33% of all smartphone shipments offline). Huawei reaches the second position with 8% in the online segment largely due to its Honor series of devices. According to the report, it has everything Xiaomi and Samsung have to become a major regional player. However, the actual second place goes to Samsung, which shows a 21% yea-over-year growth, which is due mainly to its budget devices - Galaxy J7 Nxt, Galaxy J2 (2017) and J2 (2018). The high-end and more expensive units did not sell well. Vivo comes third with 18% year-over-year growth thanks to three models: Y71, V9 and Y83. It also has a strong offline position. It is followed by fellow company Oppo which has experienced 15 year-over-year growth and Transsion, which is focused mainly offline, comes 5th. Its offline-focused brand - Tecno grew by 26% followed by itel with 14% QoQ growth in 2Q18. Infinix, which is an exclusively online brand, grew by 45% with an overall 53% year-over-year growth for the company.Source
