Sony LYTIA 610 goes official with new pixel structure and 20% resolution boost

Add DeviceSpecifications as a preferred source on GoogleSony has unveiled the LYTIA 610 (LYT-610), a 1/2‑type 64‑megapixel CMOS sensor built around an industry‑first RB2x2 On‑Chip Lens (OCL) pixel structure - a design that pushes both resolution and autofocus performance forward in ways its previous 1/2‑type sensors couldn't match.
Sony says the new pixel architecture, paired with a dedicated remosaicing algorithm, delivers more than a 20% jump in spatial resolution compared to its own LYTIA 601, despite using the same 0.7 μm pixel size. The RB2X2 OCL layout splits responsibilities across the array: green pixels use a 1x1 OCL structure to maximize fine detail, while red and blue pixels adopt a 2x2 OCL configuration to strengthen phase‑detection autofocus. The result is a sensor that resolves more texture at telephoto focal lengths while maintaining fast, accurate AF - a combination that has traditionally required larger hardware.
Video performance also gets a major lift. Thanks to a redesigned logic circuit and a more parallelized ADC, the LYTIA 610 becomes Sony's first 1/2‑type sensor capable of 4K recording at 120 fps. It also supports 4K 60 fps HDR capture, enabling smoother transitions between main and auxiliary cameras in multi‑lens systems - an area where smaller sensors often fall behind. Sony positions this as a way to reduce the visual mismatch that can occur when switching lenses during video shooting.
The sensor enters mass production at the end of June 2026. With its compact size, high‑speed readout, and hybrid OCL design, the LYTIA 610 is poised to appear in upcoming mid‑to‑premium smartphones looking to close the gap with larger flagship sensors - especially in telephoto and high‑frame‑rate video scenarios.
