Apple will use LG Mini-LED displays for the iPad Pro

23 June 2020, 04:38:34

Apple will use LG Mini-LED displays for the iPad ProKorean news outlet states that Apple will use 12.9-inch Mini-LED displays from LG for the iPad Pro due later this year. The information comes from "sources within the company (LG Display)". This will be the first time Apple is using Mini-LEDs for its iPad Pro line-up. In general, using Mini-LEDs allows producers to use more LED chips into the same space and increase display resolution. A tablet or a laptop's display can use around 10,000 Mini-LEDs. Another typical characteristic of this type of displays is that they use a Back Light Unit (BLU), which is combined with the LCD layer into a single module. In addition, Taiwan's Epistar will be supplying the LED chips. The panels will be made by LG Display. The LCD module, or LCM, will be assembled by Taiwan's TSMT which will oversee the whole project. TSMT will then supply the module to Foxconn which will assemble the iPad Pro. The 12.9-inch Mini-LED iPad Pro is in trial production. It will launch in the fourth quarter at the earliest.Source
