Samsung ISOCELL HP5 goes official with an ultra-small pixel size

The Samsung ISOCELL HP5 debuts as the first mobile image sensor with 0.5 µm pixels, delivering a 200MP resolution tailored for high-resolution wide and telephoto cameras. On a wide lens it provides a 2x in-sensor zoom that outperforms traditional digital zoom, and when combined with a 3x telephoto module it reaches an effective 6x zoom.
The sensor overcomes the usual light-collection limits of tiny pixels by using Front Deep Trench Isolation (FDTI) and a Dual Vertical Transfer Gate (D-VTG) to increase Full Well Capacity. Conversion gain improvements from DTI center cut (DCC) further boost sensitivity, producing brighter images despite the small 0.5 µm pixel pitch.
Light capture and color accuracy are enhanced through several optical and structural innovations. A High Precision Microlens (High-P) raises light absorption, while a High Transmittance ARL (High-T) reduces reflection and scattering to improve quantum efficiency. High Sensitivity DTI (High-S) employs an oxide-based insulation structure to cut interference and limit light loss. Together, these technologies enable clear, true-to-life images in both bright and low-light conditions.
The 1/1.56" ISOCELL HP5 also includes improved Smart ISO Pro and staggered HDR for stronger dynamic range. End-to-end AI Remosaic processes full 200MP images in under two seconds, so high-resolution photos are ready almost instantly.
