Elephone U/U Pro are the first smartphones from the brand that feature an AMOLED screen. The flexible display panel of each of the models has a 5.99-inch diagonal size and an FHD+ resolution (1080 x 2160 pixels). The smart soft light property is designed especially for people who tend to use the device for longer times. It protects the eyes from straining and is ideal for reading, video watching, browsing. The display is covered with a 3D curved Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and takes up 83% of the total front surface of the device. The looks of the models are strongly reminiscent of the Galaxy S8/S8+ design. The frame of the devices is made of beautifully polished stainless steel alloy. The back is 3D curved and the surface of the backplate has an electroplated gloss that creates a lumia effect. An interesting design touch is the Elephone logo on the back, which also serves as a LED notification light if your phone is turned with the display down. Elephone U is based on the very power efficient MediaTek Helio P23 (MT6763V) chipset. Moreover, the manufacturer has redesigned the internals, creating an L-shaped motherboard, which helps heat dissipation. When heat management is in control, then we can expect better performance. In the case of this model, the Helio P23 is in its downclocked variant with its first quadruplet of CPU cores clocked at 2GHz and the second quadruplet ticking at 1.5GHz. The Mali-G71 MP2 GPU is clocked at 700MHz. In terms of RAM (LPDDR4X, dual-channel, 1600MHz), the model has two variants - 4GB and 6GB. In terms of built-in storage capacity, the device arrives either with 64GB or 128GB of memory. Either way, it can be expanded with up to 1TB, according to the manufacturer. We have already reviewed several devices based on the Helio P23 chipset and our experience shows that this chipset is very power efficient. We do expect that Elephone U, despite its 5.99-inch FHD+ display, will show good battery life results. It is equipped with a 3620 mAh battery coupled with a 5V/2A fast charger. The model supports MediaTek's Pump Express+ fast charging technology.

On the other hand, Elephone U Pro packs a Snapdragon 660 chipset that houses a 2.2GHz octa-core CPU and an Adreno 512 GPU. The RAM and storage also have two variants - 4GB/6GB and 64GB/128GB, respectively. The RAM is again of the LPDDR4X, dual-channel type but clocked at a higher rate - 1866MHz. The battery capacity is a bit smaller than that on the Elephone U - 3550 mAh. The Pro version supports Quick Charge 3.0 and is shipped with a 5V/2A fast charger. With big displays, reasonable performance and battery life, Elephone U and Elephone U Pro are suitable for multimedia experience. As long as it concerns photography capabilities, the smartphones are equipped with two rear cameras - a 13MP colour and a 13MP monochrome shooter. They are aided by a dual-tone LED flash, PDAF, and the ArcSoft algorithm for improved shooting. The front-facing cameras have 8MP sensors. Elephone says that after a future OTA update they will support face recognition and unlock. The update will add stickers and effects as well. The devices support radio with RDS and have an NXP Smart PA amplifier for a better audio experience. Neither has a 3.5 mm jack, so you have to use the headphone adapter included in the packages. Elephone U and Elephone U Pro support dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, NFC, GPS and Glonass. There's Bluetooth 4.0 for the U and Bluetooth 5.0 for the U Pro. Their hybrid, dual-SIM slots can house either two Nano-SIM cards or a Nano-SIM and a microSD card. Each model has a USB Type-C 2.0 port on board along with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. The models runs on Android 7.1 Nougat that is bound to be upgraded to Android 8.0 Oreo that will support a bunch of new features, including a sidebar for quick access to apps and contacts - similar to the one on the Galaxy S8/S8+.

We expect the Elephone U and U Pro to arrive so we can make an in-depth review of these models. Meanwhile, you can pre-order them with a $20 discount, free gifts and other extras exclusively from GearBest.
