Apple presents the iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max

12 September 2018, 12:16:38

Apple presents the iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs MaxThe iPhone Xs is announced first, featuring a stainless steel body, an edge-to-edge screen with a notch and the toughest cover glass for the screen and back. The body is IP68 certified for dust and water resistance. The unit has a 5.8-inch OLED display with a resolution of 1125 x 2436 pixels. It supports Dolby Vision and HDR10. iPhone Xs Max comes next with a 6.5-inch OLED screen and a resolution of 1242 x 2688 pixels. Both displays support 120Hz touch-sensing, 3D touch, tap to wake, true tone, wide colour support, etc. The two models also arrive with stereo speakers and support Face ID. The latter is the "most secure face identification on a smartphone". More interestingly, the chipset under the hood is the new 7nm chip called A12 Bionic, packed with 6.9 billion transistors. This is a 6-core CPU with 2 high-performance and 4 efficiency cores. It is coupled with a neural engine - an 8-core dedicated unit. An ISP, depth engine, video processor, always-on processor, display engine, etc. have found their way inside the A2 Bionic, which is the "smartest and most powerful chip ever on a smartphone". It is paired with up to 512GB of built-in memory. CoreML, Apple's machine learning platform, is going to get up to nine times faster. But it's going to run with as little as 1/10th the energy. That's at the core of augmented reality experiences. The iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max are equipped with two rear cameras - a 12MP wide shooter with an f/1.8 lens and a 12MP telephoto one with an f/2.4 lens. Both support OIS and have 6-element lenses. The telephoto camera offers 2x optical zoom. On the front, there's a new sensor as well - a 7MP unit with an f/2.2 lens. The iPhone Xs uses Smart HDR, zero shutter lag - the A12 Bionic is shooting a 4-frame buffer but is also capturing secondary interframes, shot at a different exposure level to bring out highlight details. Portrait mode and portrait lighting get improved as well. What Apple refers to a breakthrough in the bokeh mode shooting. There's a slider that appears in the photo editor called "depth" and with it, you can adjust the depth of field. The "new era in video" shooting includes stereo sound recording.

As long as it concerns battery life, the iPhone Xs offers 30 minutes more than the iPhone X and the iPhone Xs Max offers 1 hour and a half more than the iPhone X - the Xs Max has the biggest battery Apple has ever placed on an iPhone. And here's the sum-up of the specs: Source
