SK Telecom, Nokia and Ericsson to work on 5G improvement and 6G R&DYonhap reports that South Korea's leading carrier - SK Telecom has signed memoranda of understanding with Finland-based Nokia on Sweden-based Ericsson "to improve the ultra-reliable, low latency of the 5G network". SK Telecom has deployed its 5G network in South Korea in early April this year using the equipment by both Nordic companies.

The MOUs between the companies includes R&D on technologies related to 6G as well. According to the International Research Journal of Engineering and Technology, "6G is proposed to integrate 5G with satellite networks for global coverage. 6g technology is considered to be cheap and Fast Internet Technology. It provides high data rates and fast Internet speed to access on air through wireless and mobile devices with data ranges up-to 11 Gbps when travelling far distances."

Other global companies originating from South Korea, such as LG and Samsung, have already started tapping into the R&D of 6G networks earlier this year. LG announced that at the end of January. Together with the KAIST Institute, a research organization for technologies for the country’s economic development, it opened a 6G research lab in Daejeon, 160 km south of Seoul.

Samsung Research has created the Advanced Communications Research Center that will focus on the initial research on 6G. This research centre has been created with the expansion of the team that has worked on the 5G network solutions.Source
