Sonim announced the most rugged smartphone with 4G LTE connectivity

A new offering by Sonim claims to be the most rugged smartphone with 4G LTE connectivity. The Sonim XP7 Extreme comes in a limited number of units and is designed not to impress with specs but to survive in harsh conditions instead. It is built for participants in extreme and rough outdoor sports and is already available for purchase via Indiegogo. For starters, the rugged smartphone surpasses the military-grade certifications and is IP68 and IP69 certified, meaning it is dust-tight, sealed against micro particles and water-proof (up to 2 meters for 90 minutes). It is also shock and vibration, oils and chemicals resistant. More impressively, it can withstand the crushing force of a ton of metric pressure. Drops on concrete and other hard surface are no problem any more. The smartphone can also endure very high and low temperatures (from -20°C to +55°C). The screen is bright as to provide clear visibility even in direct sunlight and can be easily operated with gloves. The extra loud 103dB front-facing speaker and the noise-cancelling microphone ensure high-quality sound in noisy environments. The battery's capacity of 4800 mAh ensures the staggering 1000 hours of standby time and 40 hours of talk time. Sonim also offer a three-year comprehensive warranty for damages due to extreme use (not abuse) of the smartphone. As long as the specifications of the Sonim XP7 Extreme are concerned, they are not that impressive and actually don't need to be.
