Qualcomm announces the Snapdragon 660 and Snapdragon 630 chipsetsQualcomm has announced the Snapdragon 660 SoC as a successor of the SD 653 and the Snapdragon 630, which succeeds the SD 626. Both boast features that are typical for the high-end 800-series Qualcomm chipsets such as the 14-bit Qualcomm Spectra 160 camera ISP, Kryo CPU, and Hexagon Vector eXtensions (HVX). Thus even mid-range smartphones can support advanced connections, cameras of higher quality, AI features, and will enjoy improved security and battery life. For starters, the SD 630 supports up to 13MP+13MP for dual cameras, while the SD 660 supports 16MP+16MP dual shooters. Both support up to 24MP images with zero shutter lag. The Snapdragon Neural Processing Engine SDK technology is Qualcomm's tool for developing machine learning processes and designing for artificial intelligence. In addition, it is for the first time that chipsets from the 600 series pack a X12 LTE modem that offers download speeds of up to 600 Mbps. A new location engine, Bluetooth 5 support, and an advanced RF Front End support, which includes TruSignal adaptive antenna technology with carrier aggregation for optimized signal quality are on board as well. The SD 660 also supports Wi-Fi 802.11ac with 2X MU-MIMO Further technologies, integrated in the Snapdragon 630 and 660, include an EcoPix display solution for easy viewing even in harsh sunlight, an improved TruPalette technology for displaying accurate colours, and the Aqstic codec that supports up to 192-kHz/24-bit playback for Hi-Fi audio. The two also support Quick Charge 4 and are equipped with a Kryo 260 CPU. The Snapdragon 660 packs an Adreno 512 GPU, while the SD 630 has a 508 GPU. Qualcomm will start shipping both chipsets at the end of the month.
