Pixel C - a laptop-tablet hybrid that competes directly with Microsoft's Surface and iPad

29 September 2015, 21:52:07

Pixel C - a laptop-tablet hybrid that competes directly with Microsoft's Surface and iPadAlong with the LG Nexus 5X and the Huawei Nexus 6P Google presented the Pixel C - a laptop-tablet hybrid based on Android and "built end-to-end by Google". The device has two main parts - the display one, which alone can be used as a tablet and a classic keyboard. An interesting feature is that the only means of physically attaching the two together is by powerful magnets. When not in use, the keyboard can be placed on the back of the display or on top of it like a classic laptop. The software connection between the two parts is via Bluetooth. Furthermore, when the keyboard is not in use, it will be charged (via Bluetooth of course) from the tablet itself. As long as user-friendliness is concerned, the keyboard has a full set of keys, they have just been optimized in size without compromising convenient typing. The Pixel C has an IPS panel with 10.2-inch diagonal size and a resolution of 2560 x 1800 pixels, which means the pixel density is pretty high for a tablet - 308 ppi. The device is also supposed to be very powerful - its performance relies on a quad-core Nvidia Tegra X1 chipset (remember that Nvidia dropped making chips for smartphones and focused on tablets?) along with a Maxwell GPU and 3GB of RAM. The device runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow and features a USB Type-C connector. It has a 32GB variant priced at USD 499 and a 64GB version that costs USD 599. The keyboard costs additional USD 149. It is expected that the Pixel C will go on sale around the Christmas-New Year's Eve period.Source
