ZTE advances its 5G strategy, will launch the Axon 10 Pro 5G in China in JulyZTE is not only a smartphone manufacturer, but it is also even a bigger supplier of equipment for telecoms in China and is actually one of the biggest players in the 5G market today. It already has 25 5G commercial contracts worldwide and has shipped more than 50,000 5G base stations. The company's president, Xu Ziyang, said that it will release 7nm 5G chipset in the second half of 2019 before launching 5nm products. This will strengthen the strategic patent deployment in 5G-related technologies for ZTE. According to Xu, who spoke at the 5G summit as part of the MWC 2019 in Shanghai, as of the end of 2018, ZTE has 73,000 patent applications including over 35,000 globally-licensed patents and more than 3,000 strategic patents for 5G technologies.

To illustrate ZTE's strong commitment to 5G, Xu said that the company will spend more than 10% of its annual revenues on R&D projects in 2019, relying on Sanechips - its chipmaking arm for supplies. It will focus on 5G-based core chip solutions and core operating systems for 5G mobile communications networks, etc.

At the MWC Shanghai 2019, ZTE released its 5G Common Core which features a 2.6GHz spec that can accommodate both 4G and 5G to help telecom operators upgrade from NSA (non-standalone) to SA network operations at a 40% lower cost. In addition to that, ZTE showcased ZTE-branded mobile devices with 5G connectivity, including the Axon 10 Pro 5G which will launch in China next month.
