FOSSiBOT S2 offers a familiar attractive design and a big battery without breaking the bank

FOSSiBOT S2 Design
FOSSiBOT S2 has a sleek design with a flat front and back. Its slim profile and catchy green-cyan colorway make it a pleasure to hold and behold. The light refracts in various ways playing with color and creating a mesmerizing effect. The rear shell is made of very delicate plastic with a silk-like finish. The same color and finish are applied to the frame for an overall complete look and feel. As long as it concerns footprint, the S2 has average dimensions and weight for a smartphone with a 6.7-inch display and nearly 5000 mAh battery. The body is 76.96 mm wide, 166.94 mm tall, and 8.5 mm thick. Its weight measures 195 g.The display casing is made of hard plastic. It protrudes only a little from the surface of the frame and the glass surface of the screen. There's a pre-applied hard screen protector and the device arrives with a TPU rear-shell cover in the box. The latter provides more tangible physical protection with strongly pronounced edges around the display and the camera module on the back. Back to the display. The bezels measure 2 mm on the sides, 3 mm on the top, and 5 mm on the bottom. The top bezel houses the selfie camera in a V-shaped notch. The light and proximity sensors are positioned to the right on the top bezel. The earpiece is hairline-thin and almost invisible, placed right below the top frame.
The overall minimalist flair is underlined by the rear shell that features an iPhone-like camera island and a FOSSiBOT logo at the lower part of the back that's so delicate, that it's almost invisible. The top frame is bare, while the bottom one houses the USB Type-C 2.0 port, the microphone, and the bottom-firing speaker. The FOSSiBOT S2 is equipped with a triple-slot tray positioned on the left frame. It can be easily opened with the provided SIM pin in the box. It allows you to use simultaneously two Nano-SIM cards and a microSD card. The volume rocker and the power button with an embedded fingerprint sensor can be found on the right frame.
FOSSiBOT S2 Display and Cameras
FOSSiBOT S2 boasts a 6.7-inch IPS display with an FHD+ resolution (1080 x 2400 px) and a 60Hz refresh rate. The Display settings contain all the usual customization options including display size and text, brightness level and auto-brightness toggle, dark theme toggle, screen saver, night light, color mode, and others. The display is soft to the eyes and responsive, with adequate auto brightness and a maximum brightness that's enough for comfortable outdoor viewing.The device is equipped with a 50MP SK Hynix Hi-5021Q main camera with an f/1.8 aperture. It is capable of recording FHD videos at 30 fps. The camera is adjoined by a single LED flash and two auxiliary lenses. A 16MP Sony IMX471 resides in the V-shaped notch on the front and is responsible for the selfies. It is paired with an f/2.45 lens. The selfie camera records HD videos (720p) and supports face unlock.
FOSSiBOT S2 System-on-Chip, Sensors, Battery
This smartphone is based on a MediaTek Helio G85 (MT6769Z) chipset that usually delivers around 250K points on AnTuTu. Built on the 12nm process, it houses an octa-core CPU with 2x 2.0GHz Cortex-A75 cores and 6x 1.8GHz Cortex-A55 cores in a big.LITTLE structure. The graphics department is headed by an ARM Mali-G52 2EEMC2 GPU that is clocked up to 1GHz. There are 8GB of dual-channel LPDDR4X RAM clocked at 1800 MHz. It can be virtually expanded with an additional 8GB or 12GB. The capacity of the built-in memory is 256GB and it can be expanded via a memory card. Of those 256GB, 238GB are available to the user.A 4900 mAh battery powers the smartphone and supports 18W wired charging. There's an 18W charger with a Type-C to Type-A cable in the box. The hardware-reporting apps mention 20 sensors on board the device including an accelerometer, magnetic field, orientation, gyroscope, light, proximity sensor, gravity, linear acceleration, rotation vector, game rotation vector, significant motion, step detector, step counter, geomagnetic rotation vector, tilt detector, wake gesture, device orientation, and others. There's a side-mounted fingerprint sensor as well. It is fast enough and works without error.
FOSSiBOT S2 UI, apps, connectivity
The device runs on stock Android 14 with a minimum of pre-installed apps. You can check our FOSSiBOT S2 video above which presents the user interface, apps, and settings. The pre-installed apps include Assistant, Audio Recorder, Calculator, Calendar, Camera, Chrome, Clock, Contacts, Drive, Files, Find Device, FM Radio, Gmail, Google Discover, Keep Notes, Maps, Meet, Messages, Phone, Photos, Play Store, Safety, Settings, YouTube, and YT Music. The home screen settings are limited to notification dots, adding app icons to the home screen, and switching on/off Google Discover. Desktop shortcuts are supported. The Task Manager provides not only the standard app info and split-screen options but also the opportunity to lock/unlock an app from being cleared from the background. All elements are in stock design and layout.The smartphone supports Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac), and NFC. It provides fast and accurate navigation with GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and BeiDou support. The triple-slot tray allows you to use two Nano-SIM cards and a microSD card simultaneously. The device supports the following network bands: 2G GSM (B2, B3, B5, B8), 3G WCDMA (B1, B2, B4, B5, B6, B8, B19), 4G FDD-LTE (B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, B7, B8, B12, B13, B17, B18, B19, B20, B25, B26, B28AB, B66), 4G TDD-LTE (B38, B40, B41).
