Add DeviceSpecifications as a preferred source on GoogleUnihertz has officially unveiled the 8849 Tank Pad Ultra, a device that pushes the rugged‑tablet category into entirely new territory. With a massive 23,400 mAh battery, a built‑in 1080p DLP projector, and a design that looks more like industrial equipment than consumer tech, the Tank Pad Ultra is positioned as a field‑ready workstation for professionals who operate far from power outlets, networks, or controlled environments.
The most noteworthy feature of the tablet is the integrated DLP projector. With a 1920 x 1080 resolution and 260‑lumen brightness - the highest on a mobile device, it transforms the Tank Pad Ultra into a portable presentation and entertainment tool, capable of projecting maps, movies, plans, or media onto any flat surface. The tablet offers an improved cooling system by incorporating a larger fan with higher power, allowing the projector to reach this peak brightness. It is combined with laser‑ranging autofocus from 0.5 to 4 meters.
The battery of the Tank Pad Ultra is its second defining feature. At 23,400 mAh, it dwarfs nearly every tablet and smartphone on the market. Fast charging is supported at 11 V / 6 A, and the device can act as a power bank via 10W reverse wired charging. For users working off‑grid, this battery capacity can sustain days of operation without external power.
At the heart of the Tank Pad Ultra is MediaTek's Dimensity 8200 (MT6896Z), a 4 nm SoC combining a 3.1 GHz Cortex‑A78 performance core, three additional 3.0 GHz A78 cores, and four 2.0 GHz Cortex‑A55 efficiency cores. Graphics are handled by the Mali‑G610 MC6 GPU running at 950 MHz. Paired with 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 512GB of internal storage, plus microSD expansion, the tablet delivers performance levels closer to a modern upper‑midrange smartphone than a typical rugged device.
The front of the device is dominated by a 10.95‑inch IPS display with a 1920 x 1200 resolution and a 16:10 aspect ratio. With a pixel density of 207 ppi, it prioritizes durability and visibility over ultra‑high resolution, and the scratch‑resistant panel supports multi‑touch input. Audio performance is handled by dual stereo speakers rated at 2W each, supported by Smart PA amplification and a 3.5 cc sound cavity. Dual analog microphones with noise reduction and a dedicated receiver enhance communication clarity, especially when using the tablet’s PTT (push‑to‑talk) functionality.
Photography is another area where Unihertz has gone far beyond typical rugged tablet expectations. The main rear camera uses Sony's IMX766 sensor, a 1/1.56‑inch 50MP unit capable of capturing 4K video at 30 fps. It supports PDAF, HDR, panorama, digital stabilization, and a full suite of manual controls. Alongside it sits a dedicated 64 MP night‑vision camera based on the OmniVision OV64B sensor, complete with four infrared lights and 4K video recording. This module is designed for low‑light fieldwork, search‑and‑rescue operations, and nighttime surveillance. On the front, a 32MP Sony IMX616 sensor handles selfies and video calls, recording 1080p video at 30 fps.
Connectivity is exceptionally broad, covering 2G, 3G, 4G LTE, and a wide range of 5G bands across both FDD and TDD. The tablet supports Wi‑Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, and Galileo, ensuring robust wireless performance. A USB‑C 2.0 port handles charging and data transfer, and the presence of a 3.5 mm headphone jack is a welcome inclusion for field users who rely on wired audio equipment.
The tablet's physical presence alone sets it apart. Measuring 268.3 x 170.3 x 23.6 mm and weighing an extraordinary 1.345 kg, it is unapologetically heavy and oversized, built around a reinforced chassis available in black and silver. The device integrates a built‑in handle, a camping light, RGB warning lights, and a ruggedized frame that clearly targets emergency responders, construction teams, surveyors, and expedition users who need a tool that can survive harsh conditions rather than a thin, elegant slate.
