Sony Xperia 5 V is unveiled with camera and chipset updates

Sony Xperia 5 V has just been announced. This compact smartphone features the same display as its last year's sibling - a 6.1-inch OLED unit with an FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It also supports 10-bit color bit depth, covers 100% of the DCI-P3 color space, and is powered by Sony's X1 for mobile chip. The battery is also the same - a 5000 mAh accumulator with 30W fast charging and Qi wireless charging support. The charger is sold separately. There are also two front-firing stereo speakers and a 3.5 mm headphone jack with Hi-Res Audio and Hi-Res Audio Wireless certification and DSEE Ultimate.
And here are the changes. The design has been changed slightly - the phone is a tad heavier and thicker. It features a flat profile with a fine-grained metal frame and frosted glass rear. The protection on the back and front depends on a Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2. The body is IP68 rated for water and dust resistance, as usual, and is available in Blue, Platinum Silver, and Black colors. The chipset is upgraded to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 paired with 8GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 128GB of UFS 4.0 storage that can be expanded via a microSD card slot.
The camera department of the Sony Xperia 5 V has the biggest update. The new model features a dual-camera setup headed by a 52MP unit with a 1/1.35" optical format. It outputs 12MP photos by default and offers a 2x zoom for 48MP photos. The second rear shooter is a 12MP ultra-wide snapper with a 1/2.5" optical format and a 16 mm focal length equivalent. The front camera remains the same 12MP unit as on last year's Xperia 5.
Sony Xperia 5 V will go on sale later this month priced at EUR 999 / GBP 849.
