Oppo unveils the Reno5 Pro+ Artist Limited Edition with an electrochromic glass

19 January 2021, 03:27:02

Oppo unveils the Reno5 Pro+ Artist Limited Edition with an electrochromic glassOppo has unveiled the Oppo Reno5 Pro+ Artist Limited Edition which features an electrochromic glass. This type of glass has different names in various industries: atomized glass, electromagnetic sunshade, etc. Speaking of this, you may think of the Mercedes-Benz SLK sports car and the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. In the Boeing, for example, passengers can change the glass from dark, to translucent, to transparent simply by pressing the button on the porthole of the aircraft.

In the case of the Oppo Reno5 Pro+ Artist Limited Edition, Oppo has overcome numerous technical problems, accumulated more than 100 patents, and innovatively developed a gel-state organic small molecule material that can be used as a flexible electrochromic membrane.

In order to make "mobile phone discoloration" a reality, Oppo has undergone three generations of evolution: the first generation is an inorganic solid electrochromic material, which is mostly used in the construction field but it is bulky, heavy, thick, and costly. In order to be applied to smartphones, it has to be thinner, lighter, and more affordable.

The second generation is a liquid electrochromic material. Compared with the first generation, it solves the weight and thickness problems. However, it has the problems of high power consumption, dark color, easy leakage and poor reliability, and potential safety hazards so cannot be used on mobile phones.

The third generation is a flexible electrochromic material, which solves the shortcomings of the first and second generation materials, allowing the electrochromic technology to be mass-produced and commercialized on mobile phones for the first time.

Compared to the classic Oppo Reno5 Pro+, the Artist Limited Edition is a bit heavier and thicker while retaining all other specifications.
