MediaTek becomes the biggest smartphone chipset vendor in Q3 of 2020The latest Counterpoint research in the field of the mobile chipset market shows that MediaTek has become the biggest smartphone chipset vendor in Q3 of 2020. This is a first for the brand. The main drive behind it is "MediaTek's strong performance in the $100-$250 price band and growth in key regions like China and India." Another reason is the gap created due to the US ban on Huawei. MediaTek was the first option for the low and mid-range segments.

At the same time, Qualcomm recorded strong share gains YoY in the high-end segment in Q3 2020, aided by HiSilicon's supply issues. The brand has become the biggest 5G chipset vendor in Q3 2020. It powered 39% of the 5G phones sold worldwide with the demand for 5G smartphones increasing twofold in Q3 2020 - 17% of all smartphones sold in Q3 2020 were 5G. Source
