Huawei will announce its 5G foldable smartphone at the 2019 MWC in Barcelona, the Balong 5000 modem is officialHuawei has formally presented the Balong 5000 modem in China. Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei Consumer Business Group, said this is the world's most powerful 5G modem. It only got mentioned when the company announced its Kirin 980 chipset last year. Balong 5000 is the first 5G modem to achieve industry's benchmark 5G peak download rate by achieving 4.6 Gbps in the sub-6GHz low-frequency band and China's main 5G frequency band along with 6.5 Gbps in the millimetre wave which is the highest frequency band and 5G extended band. That's 10 times higher speeds than 4G LTE ones. Balong 5000 is the first mobile modem in the world to support SA (5G independent networking) and NSA (5G non-independent networking, that is, 5G network architecture on LTE) networking mode, which can flexibly respond to users and operators of hardware devices in different stages of 5G industry development. It is also the world's first multimode chip that supports V2X (vehicle to everything), providing low latency, highly reliable car networking solution. At the end of the event, Huawei confirmed that it will showcase its first 5G smartphone at the MWC 2019 in Barcelona at the end of February. Moreover, Richard Yu confirmed that this will be a foldable device with a Kirin 980 chipset which will house both the Snapdragon X50 LTE and Balong 5000 modems. Qualcomm's modem can offer peak download speeds of 5 Gbps but does not support Standalone (SA) and FDD frequencies that are supported by Balong 5000 5G modem. Richard Yu said: "Balong 5000 launches a new world for you. It can awaken the perception of everything and promote the intelligence of all things. The Huawei 5G CPE Pro equipped with this chip allows consumers to access the network more freely and enjoy the fast connection experience." He also added, "Huawei has a full range of capabilities including chips, terminals, cloud services and networks. It is a leader in the 5G era and will bring a wonderful full-scenario smart life experience to consumers around the world."
