Google Pixel 9 goes official with a Tensor G4 chip, improved AI capabilities, and a 50MP ultra-wide camera

Google's 24' Keynote was held two months earlier than usual. The event was dedicated to the Pixel 9 series. The first of the trio of devices is the Pixel 9. Obviously, it retains the same form factor and footprint as last year's Pixel 8. It is built around a 6.3-inch OLED display with an FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. However, Google states it is 35% brighter than that of the Pixel 8. The display houses an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor and has a punch hole for the 10.5MP Samsung selfie camera with autofocus support. The rear camera department is limited to two shooters, as usual. The main camera uses the same sensor as last year's model - the 50MP Samsung GNK with a 1/1.31" optical size, 1.2 µm pixel size, and OIS support. It is adjoined by a 48MP ultra-wide camera - an increase in megapixels compared to the previous generation.
The Pixel 9 is based on the new Tensor G4 chipset comprising a single Cortex-X4 core, three Cortex-A720 cores, and four Cortex-A520 cores. A Mali-G715 GPU handles the graphics department with a minor increase in its clock rate. The chipset also houses the Exynos 5400 modem. The base RAM capacity has been increased to 12GB on the Pixel 9. The model's AI capabilities have been, hence, improved. There are two storage versions - 128GB and 256GB. Running on Android 14 (Android 15 is due in a couple of months), the device enjoys 7 years of OS and security software updates. The model is available in four colors - Obsidian, Peony, Porcelain, and Wintergreen. It is priced at USD 900 / GBP 750 / EUR 900 for the 128GB version and USD 1000 / GBP 895 / EUR 1000 for the 256GB variant.
